Having had poorly piggy in a fair bit this week its become apparent thats she smells, in the almost 6 yrs we have left them to pretty much clean themselves apart form a one off little splash a yr ago, im going to attempt a little bathe of them both and a little water therapy on poorly pigs bad leg i thought could be theraputic. What do you all wash your piggies with? Im thinking a nice tea tree oil human shampoo of dd's.....

I use the Lice N Easy from Gorgeous Guineas as a preventative measure. Smells lovely and their coats are glossy for ages afterwards :)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/06/2012 15:13

YY Gorgeous Guineas shampoo.
They do some little sample bottles to try out (a couple of pounds each)

I've only used the Just for Boars so far as I treated them with some drops for lice/mites/roundworm and don't want it washed off.

And it's been a bit cold to wash the boys ,though GP2 does need it after he walked through a fresh puddle of his brothers pee.

So not only does he smell of pee, he smells of someone elses pee Envy

how is poorly guinea doing?
Is she walking a bit better?

BonkeyMollocks · 09/06/2012 17:49

I did my teo yesterday with johnsons baby shampoo.

fortifiedwithtea · 09/06/2012 17:50

Old Boy has only ever had 2 baths and I've used Johnsons Baby Bath . He finds baths enjoyable (stands in the washing up bowl as good as gold) and likes a gentle leg massage .

Not keen on the hair dryer (pigs can't regulate their temperature easily). So last time I waited afew days until the weather was really hot so he could dry naturally in the sun after a rub with a towel.

What's the news on poorly pig is she walking any better now?

Thanks, im delaying it now as its rained all day now and i dont want her getting a snuffle so will do tomorrow with the dc. Thanks for asking but shes still struggling, more of a limp now like shes hurt her back right leg. Shes been up and down the ramp (we made a new one thats longer but less sloped to help her out). She takes her medicine till Monday then i think we will be going back. I went out earlier and poppes some cucumber in the bowl and she just stayed in her little blue box. In fact im going to go get her now for a love in........ Smile

aawwww- that little face says "Maybe if I burrow my face into this blanket Mum won't notice I'm here and I won't get a B.A.T.H.

I know ha ha, i cant beleive how besotted i am with these lovely creatures i am sure if they could talk we could have soem right chortles ! To be fair she didnt smell tonight she must have been damp yesterday. Ive decided when im an old dear and living alone i am going to have lots of piggies that i will rescue. Mind DH seems to be getting a bit soft worrying over her so maybe i wont have to be crazy lonely piggy woman. DC are making a fuss of her sister now so she doesnt feel left out.

I've got to gird myself to cut the boars nails - it's a 2 person job, especially with GP2.
They don't screech like some GPs do, he pulls his paws away, especially the front paws, and looks very judgey and beligerantly at me.
They have black paws (GP2 is a jet black fluffy coat -he pretends he's Abysynnian but he's just fluffy- and GP1 is an agouti).. Black nails are not the easiest to see the quick especially if you keep pulling the blardy things away GP2

noyouhavehadawee · 09/06/2012 20:08

ouch, that is something thankfully i have never had to do because they free range accross the garden and patio a lot they seem to wear naturally phew! They do have a way at looking at you dont they!

I'm a complete wuss and take mine to the vet when they need their toenails done. Of course, they sit in vet nurse's lap BEAUTIFULLY and patiently have their nails cut with her (traitors).

Re: the weather thing - I bathe mine inside then let them run around inside until they're dry - I have an indoor run for the winter anyway, so they're secure enough, but you could probably rig something up with some cardboard boxes and old towels if necessary.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/06/2012 23:39

I can't take mine to the vet- I'm a State Registered Podiatrist/Chiropodist, can you imagine the shame?

At least my (human) patients are glad to see me and don't tend to glare at me like I'm Freddie Kruger. (Well some do come to think of it ) Grin

GP2 just doesn't appreciate me IRL.

They have had a bath in the sink seperately, both tried to get out the sink on occasion. I soaped them up nice with johnsons top to toe and poured jugs of clar waterover them to rinse them. The water appeared quite dirty and i dont think they were overly impressed this time. They are both indoors now drying and eating a banquet of fruit and veg. I have to say though that damp they smell worse than ever Confused. Think i will have to stump up the cash on gorgeous guinea stuff.

When I wash the boars I put each (seperately to give them some peace) in a box full of straw and hay. I know they aren't meant to have straw but the bag I bought is softer than alot of the hay I've had and it's just to insulate them.
(It's how they dry horses without them chilling- straw on their backs and a rug)

That way they smell of hay when they come out ,lovely and cosy and full of hay.

My GP1 added his own 'extra' to the bath- a couple of floating bath bombs and an explosive cloud of white (near his rear end, suspiciously enough Hmm )

noyouhavehadawee · 10/06/2012 14:26

oooo right, well they need a shae out now as there are about 20 "bath bombs" on their fleece now so i will chuck on some hay.
