Guinea pig losing lots of weight

She is a year old and all skin and bone. Always lots of fresh food and she seems to eat but has lost loads of weight. She seems to be in no pain. She also drinks a lot.

At the weekend one of her eyes had gone milky too and we took her to the vet. He treated the eye but could not find anything obviously wrong with her apart from that. We are taking her back in a week.

Any suggestions?

I live in the Southwest - near Bristol.

Are just keeping them apart whilst sick pig has tea.

Can't give the critical care every 4 hours through the day as out at work - hope she will be OK with breakfast and supper!

Any recommendations as to vets gratefully received. Will see if I can find any local recommendations too.

Thanks again.

Apologies for jumping in, haven't had time to read the whole thread but this is similar to what happened to my pig Caffrey. He lost a lot of weight and had a milky eye. It turns out he had cracked his tooth, vet pulled it out and he started eating straight away. Unfortunately it's never grown back, but he manages. He still gets a milky eye every now and again, we can't pin it down to anything and it goes away on it's own. I think the milky eye may just have been coincidence.

Hi Goosey

You could try talking to this lady

www.cottontails-rescue.org.uk/

She does mainly rabbits but also GPs.

It might be a bit of a trek, but I cannot recommend Mark Bridges who's located just outside Cardiff (just off Junction 32 of the M4) highly enough. What he doesn't know about guinea pigs isn't worth knowing. Best of luck!

Also, there might be recommended vets closer to you on the guinea pig forum here www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1788

you really do need to take your piggie to a vet as soon as possible. Ring around and find one that specialises in guinea pigs.

Any update on the piggie?
