Rescue Guinea - diagnosis?

We rescued a guinea who unknown to us was pregnant. She lost the babies this afternoon mid term. Now two large sores have appeared on her back near her back end on either side on the top of what feels like hard lumps.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? We are off to the vets tomorrow but thought I would ask the experts first.

Poor GPSad She must have been under a fair amount of stress to lose her piglets. Trouble is you don't know what she went through before she came to you. (There's a very sad You Tube video from a North East rescue. They had a very pregnant sow who was left out in the winter with no bedding and alone. She had her pigs in rescue but died shortly after.Just shows what these amazing little creatures can go through. And what horrors they are forced to endure through neglect)

Did your GP have to sore spots and the lumps before she lost her piglets?
It sounds like a possible combination of hormone imbalance (due to the prgenancy abruptly ending)
Guinea-pigs can get ovarian tumours which may have been masked by the mass of the pregnancy, but I can't imagine these would be hard lumps.
Maybe an underlying mite problem that had been low key but in her situation had taken hold.
Ringworm? Though I don't know how quickly this would show itself.

Is she self barbering?Pulling out hair?
Is she itching/scratching?
One of my GPs (young male) I had as a child had a stress eczema due to intensive bullying from his mate (started as low key bolshiness but she got quite nasty with him Sad )

Could the hard lumps be bony? She'd have lost alot of soft tissue in her belly, it might be something that you are feeling now that was hidden before.

Hopefully your vet will do a scraping to check for mites/lice/ringworm.
And a blood test for hormone levels.
They may suggest a scan for the abdomen to see if there are any masses/tumours there.
It depends how far down the road you want to go with this guinea. And how she responds.
Good luck-and keep us posted .
Cross fingers .

I meant to add scurvy -what was her diet like before you got her?
And one of my GPs as a child used to get big bald spots (but not weepey or open) when she went without hay for any length of time.

Hope GP is ok. Are you a member of Cambridge Cavy Trust OP? Or post on Guinea Pig Lynx.

70 that story has made me feel sick to my stomach. How can things like that happen to poor little pigs?

Do you know if an MP or RSPCA or any other animal charity have ever campaigned to stop animals being sold to people that have no idea of their needs? To get some rescue pigs we had a home visit to check to see if we were suitable and were questioned about GP welfare etc.
