Put them in the hutch, one went in the bed, other didn't.
Left them alone all day as instructed & now one is sleep in the hay rack & one in the bed. Should I help them find each other?

I'd leave them to it for a few days.

HarrietJones · 11/04/2011 22:20

Thanks, just felt sorry for them to think they were alone as they were in different rooms Blush

awww cute
they often don't like to snuggle up together tbh - you'll get a dominant one who gets all the best places to sleep (hay rack sounds fun) and the other one gets pushed out

HarrietJones · 11/04/2011 22:33

:)

I don't have any advice, but I am really envious of you getting baby GPs, they are so cute.

Pterosaur · 11/04/2011 22:43

Leave them be, they'll find each other when they want to. Possibly quite good that they're not huddling together in terror?

I take it there's plenty of hay for the one who's not in the rack?

Carrotsandcelery · 11/04/2011 22:47

Envy Grin

HarrietJones · 12/04/2011 07:28

There's hay in the bed &inthe rack.

Mine don't cuddle up together much. The dominant one chases the other one away from wherever she wants to sleep. They didn't really find each other for a while when we got them either.

Enjoy them, they're fab :)

HarrietJones · 12/04/2011 10:45

It's back in the rack today. Had both out for little hold & restocked food etc.

How much hay should they have a day?

OP posts:
Carrotsandcelery · 12/04/2011 21:45

Give them as much hay as they will eat. It keeps their teeth ground down and keeps their innards healthy. In the wild they would graze nearly constantly.

HarrietJones · 13/04/2011 10:09

Thanks

No problem - there are some very knowledgeable guinea pig owners on here so if you have questions ask them - they have helped me lots.

HarrietJones · 13/04/2011 11:02

Your name has reminded me another question, how gradual do we introduce veg?

OP posts:
peanutbutterkid · 13/04/2011 11:04

They don't live in the wild any more :). Biologists aren't even sure which species of wild Cavy they were domesticated from (maybe 7000 years ago).
But I do agree that they should have hay at all times.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 13/04/2011 11:15

We give ours a good handful of hay in teh morning and fresh veg at night, plus keep their bedroom toped up with hay for bedding.

We gave ours a small amount of veg from teh time we got them at about 6-8wks old. Started with 1 thickish slice of cucumber each and then gradually introduced carrot, celery, pepper, dandelion leaves, apple, grapes (they didn't like grapes though)

peanutbutterkid · 13/04/2011 11:17

Some people say they should only have celery if you slice it small (maybe too fibrous if given as long pieces).

HauntedLittleLunatic · 13/04/2011 11:23

Year we do break each stick into at least 4 pieces.

Carrotsandcelery · 13/04/2011 15:10

Mine love curly kale which is also supposed to be high in vit C, something that guinea pigs struggle need to keep topped up.

breatheslowly · 13/04/2011 17:21

Mine loved parsley and we trained them to beg for it. Also high in vitamin C.
