I used to put mine out if over 10 degrees. One spring they got a kind of frostbite on their ears so was careful.

Just read this, ran into garden, felt grass in remaining sunshine, put out run, ran back, fetched pigs, placed in run.

They'll only have an hour or so, but they look pleased.

Mine goes in the garden run all year round but there is a cosy hutch attached to the run. She usually pop out when the sun comes out.

She's still in the house at night though (she's an old piggy).

Normally april time, when there is no frost in the morning, as their feet are so close to the ground (short legs) they can often get their fur very damp and can cause health issues.

itssnotfunny · 13/03/2011 21:11

mine went out as soon as snow went, i leave the ramp down so they can please thereselves. If they not interested i put the ramp back up so they can remain wind blast free.

but my how my grass needs it Grin

our guineau goes stir crazy if he does not go out. His previous owner used to put him out in all weathers with an old sweatshirt to snuggle in.

he does go out on fine days and has a towel to sit on and comes in when the sun starts to go. He is in our kitchen most of the time. sometimes we put a bit of board in the run for him to sit on and he has a house to hide in.

I put them out daily from late January this year -- sorry to horrify anybody. Lots of draft free areas for them to shelter in, though.
They seem bright and happy enough.

ooh good,
the weather forecast is set for 13 degrees this wednesday, so may well just put out my lawnmowers guinea pigs

I put my piggies out for the first time today (hadn't seen this thread!)

They didn't seem to know what to do with the grass and hid in their little house. If I put the grass in their hutch they eat it! I guess they'll figure it out, they're only little.

I've put the hutch out as well, so my sitting room isn't smelly any more, with a heater thingy under their bed. Do you think it's to cold for them to go out?

Pterosaur · 14/03/2011 11:16

It's still cold at night here - there was quite a hard frost last night. I wouldn't put them out at night yet if they're not used to it.

DollyTwat · 14/03/2011 16:49

They survived!
Maybe I'll get a small indoor cage for when it's really cold
