DH has made me put them back out in their hutch as he thinks they are fighting because they have less room in their in door hutch. They have lots of sawdust and hay (since he won't let me wash their fleece blankets in the washer either they can't have those) as well as a cosy bed but it seems so cold out there.

are they in a shed?

LowRegNumber · 28/01/2011 12:35

The tem at teh moment is so u and down I would not ut them out myself. We have had nights of +3 and nights of -8! Even today it has not come above freezing yet Shock I think your dh is being very unreasonable personally!

However could you try those heat ad things? You ut them in the bed area and they rovide constant, low level heat all the time?

Sorry about my "P" it seems to be on strike!

we place rubber gloves filled with warm water out in the sleeping area last thing at night and top up with straw. We also cover their hutch with an old blanket which helps insulate it against the cold too!

They have a very large hutch which is sheltered from the wind. I want them back in but are worried about how much they seem to be fighting.Sad

Fab, can you not bring them in at night? If we have another really cold spell it's going to be a huge shock to them now they've been indoors. It's below 0 at night here at the moment.

IAmReallyFabNow · 28/01/2011 13:48

I am going to bring them in. It is just too cold.

I'm glad. Perhaps they can spend a bit of time in the hutch each day when it's not too cold to get a bit of exercise?

I don't suppose you have room to put the hutch inside? Ours is (thinly) disguised as a sideboard in the dining room at the moment. It's not ideal, but I told DH the alternative was to buy and run a heater in the garage.

IAmReallyFabNow · 28/01/2011 13:57

The hutch could come in but the kids would have nowhere to eat tea.

I have a heat pad that goes in the microwave and stay warm for 8 hours. It was 25 quid but I figured it was worth it as Guineas live 7 years and we can't have them inside. their Hutch is in the play house atm.

IAmReallyFabNow · 28/01/2011 14:07

Guinea pigs are now in again Grin.

Thanks for the price info. I would have been shocked if I saw it but hopefully we will have another 5-6 years with them so it is good value.
