Hi I wonder if anyone can advise me .One of our boys has a hairless, small, odd shaped lump under his chin it is about 0.5cm long.He is 2.5yrs old and seems very well otherwise.
The lump is not painful as he doesn't make any noise if you examine it.
I'm worried as he lives with his brother andthey fret without each other. TIA

My first though looking at the thread title was an abscess. These are quite common under the jaw; my sow had a nasty one caused by dental problems. I don't know about small and hairless though. How long has he had it? Has it changed at all?

I'd run it past the folk at the Guinea Pig Forum, but you should get it checked out by a vet anyway.

(I thought I posted this answer earlier - must have pressed the wrong button.)

Is it like a pea or small grape? GPs can get absesses and also fatty lumps. My pigs have fatty lumps - they were checked by a vet but he did say that it depends on the area they are in as to whether they cause probs. I think absesses can cause lots of trouble. Have a search on internet for Peter Guerney info - I've been told some of it is out of date but it is a good starting point.

Totally agree about going onto GP forum or Guinea Pig Lynx is absolutely excellent too - lots of lovely helpful GP knowledgeable folks on there

Thanks for the replys. I have rung the vet this morning ,got an appointment for tomorrow.
He did not have it a few days ago,or I didn't see it.
It is an irregular shape,so neither pea or grape like.
Will go and check the forums thank you.

Back from the vets, when I got there and he examined him ,all there was to see was a bit of sticky matted fur!!
Obviously whatever it was has burst Hmm
I had not checked him before I went this morning as I didn't want him all upset and then have to have it done all over again at the vets.
The upshot is I have to keep an eye on the area and go back if it flares up again.
£11 for a minute ,I'm in the wrong job {smile]

Keep a close eye - if it was a little abscess and the cause hasn't been dealt with it may come back. With luck, it was just a little surface wound - I think abscesses can sometimes be caused by hay pokes or bites. Perhaps bathe it regularly in cooled boiled water with a little salt for a while?

He did say to put sudocrem on it if it looked a bit red.
My DH who used to have 24 Shockpiggies when he was young, thought it was most likely a scratch/bite as I have 2 gp's living together and they are brothers who bicker occasionally.
