Addict rock bottom

I know for certain that an addict I know is at a low point - although I assume not at a low enough point to seek rehab. I can’t speak to them or help them as I know I will get sucked back in, and quite frankly it’s probably dangerous. I don’t think I can even risk sending one message. However this is not stopping me from feeling upset for them and bad that I have ignored them. I expect they are feeling very low themselves. Any advice welcome.

What contact from them are you ignoring?

They call or message me occasionally but I ignore both. I did previously say I couldn’t speak anymore. I assume they contact me as want money but sometimes, maybe naively, I think they want a friend but I can’t really give either.

Do you think they’re sick enough for you to ask the police to do a welfare check on them? Or is it not that kind of low point?

No not that low as I think they still have family support (although probably deemed enabling - not throwing shade it’s all round a sad situation I don’t see any way out) but I didn’t know you could do that so thank you for flagging.

If they have family support then I’d just back away from the whole thing tbh. It’s not your responsibility and as much as addiction is sad and not necessarily their fault it’s also not yours. Only they can help themselves.

Agree completely and I have not actually spoken to this person in six months I just saw something by chance that made me realise it had got worse for them. It’s just a sad situation. Not sure what I am trying to get out of this thread either tbf but thanks for replying
