How do I stop going from one addiction to another?

I have always been addicted to something, I gave up smoking and became addicted to sugar, which developed into binge eating so I gave up sugar and became addicted to alcohol and binge drinking now I’m trying to give up alcohol but I’m finding it hard as I have nothing to replace it with.

I’d recommend therapy to deal with the underlying causes of your addictive behaviour. Addictions are often about avoiding/numbing difficult feelings. That’s what you need to work on. Feeling the feelings.

Therapy. It’s coming from somewhere.

Maybe try for a healthier alternative. Exercise? Reading? Crosswords?
I don’t mean to sound facetious in an addict myself

Kind of agree - EMDR therapy has been helpful for me.

But actually feeling and processing my feelings - I find this very intense! It's easier for me to process feelings somatically if that makes sense, so through things like listening to music, singing, physical activity etc.

So I'd probably say its not so much you need an addiction to replace it with, but a creative outlet to reduce the urge for it. Something that you get positive feedback from so the dopamine loop is complete.

Start with getting curious about some of the options that are available to you.
