Lots of people posting not understanding that actually you can get funded rehab for addiction. You need to reach out to addiction support services in your area and engage with them. They can sort out rehab if you meet the criteria and engage fully.
Addiction is a MH issue. I have been sectioned and admitted voluntarily to MH inpatient units many times for my MH issues. Addicts deserve the same.

It is free!! You need to engage with your local treatment provider, they will provide support and if you are assessed as needing rehab it will be provided. I commission drug and alcohol
services and that’s how it works. Where are you (local authority) and I can see who you provider is?

Thank you I live in Southend on sea .. Essex any information will be great 😃

The criteria and hoops to jump through to get NHS funded rehab makes it really an impossible and nonexistent option. Unfortunately we have been through this/still going through this with BIL, even his allocated case worker has said the same.

There are lots of other options which are great but residential NHS funded rehab just isn’t a realistic option at least where we are, and this is for a man who is being brought home by police/ambulance/paramedics at least once a week.

Readyforslippers · 15/09/2025 06:36

A cousin of mine qualified for NHS funded rehabilitation, however the waiting list was 2 years. I think unfortunately there just aren't the funds for the amount of people needing help.

R0ckandHardPlace · 15/09/2025 07:39

My DB got funded rehab through Turning Point, an addiction charity. He was addicted to coke and alcohol. But like most, he had to do the really hard part before he was taken in, and he also had to wait before a place became available. It was the making of him, and he’s been completely clean and dry for over 20 years now.

I know people who have got clean without rehab, with N.A. Have you tried them?

Peacepleaselouise · 15/09/2025 07:43

Yes, morally. Yes-pragmatically, since the money invested would save so much down the line including prison costs

tripleginandtonic · 15/09/2025 07:47

Why will only residential rehab work? And what are the reusing rates compared to other forms of drug rehabilitation?

Enterthewolves · 15/09/2025 08:11

It’s really hard to compare residential rehab success with community treatment because it is different groups using both - success is possible with both.

You got yourself to this place by making bad choices. Why should those leading clean lives /the rest of society have to fund your recovery?
The normalisation of drug taking sickens me.

This is absolutely awful. You want to know why I struggled with alcohol and cocaine addiction?Because I was repeatedly sexually abused by my sisters God father from age 13-17. Then to escape that situation at home I jumped into a relational with a man that then beat me black and blue and ended in prison for domestic abuse and rape. And ultimately all made worse, because I had undiagnosed adhd and at its basis, that is a chronic dopamine deficiency. Drugs, alcohol, they all trigger dopamine and and stimulate our pleasure centres like a carnal ride. Not to mention increase happiness levels that are CHRONICALLY under simulated on a normal day. This makes us much much more likely to have an addiction. Add in abuse and honestly, you think addiction is “poor choices” ? You haven’t got a clue love.

Loopylalalou · 15/09/2025 11:17

I’m sorry for your experience. It is totally beyond any understanding by me, so very luckily unaffected by other people’s evilness.
But - many do fall into various addictions through a lack of responsibility, moral fibre, call it what you will. That cannot be disputed.

I think there are a lot of people who don’t have a clue: but there are many who do and so just avoid the ignorant ones if you can. I am sorry for what you have been through and I hope that life improves for you

The country doesn’t have the funds for it

ideally, yes

but thems the breaks

Agree , sad really we don't have the money in the kitty ,many addictions are caused by ourselves and clearly we yes need support but not free ,l suppose need to understand that the country or nhs can give every thing free

Enterthewolves · 15/09/2025 18:15

Every single person I have ever met with an addiction had an underlying trauma usually rooted in early years experience.

Christ, no need for that.
Most drug addicts have had major trauma in their lifes before taking drugs.

This. Op google Narcotics Anonymous Southend on Sea. They have regular meetings.

FindingMeno · 17/09/2025 09:16

I wish it would be.
And proper healthcare, dentistry, therapy etc etc

Timeforabitofpeace · 17/09/2025 09:49

Yes it should, because addiction costs society much more in the long run. I’ve seen stats on this somewhere, sorry I can’t be more specific, but it was a reliable source.

How much are you spending on cocaine a day?

Roughly £100 a day so I can't afford rehab as I spend my money on. Cocaine .. but if I was to go into rehab and be able to pay it off that way I could be clean and drug free but it's not that easy and I have tried all different routes to seek residential rehab and had no luck 😞

Why is it that you think only residential will help OP? You won’t be forcibly held there, you can discharge yourself, so if it’s a will power issue then you can walk out of there just as easily as you can walk out of your home to get your next hit.
