I have very much reached a point with drinking now where I feel I need support. But I just feel at such a loss to know where to go for help.

I've been awake for hours googling rehab facilities and centres, but it's so overwhelming. Either the costs are astronomical or the websites are so janky and difficult to navigate.

Please could someone share their experiences in accessing support? I have quite a demanding job, so I'm not sure I'd be able to do 28 days as an inpatient...although am I just making excuses?

I don't know, any experiences or advice would be so welcome.

I think it really depends where you stay. Postcode lottery unfortunately. My friend got help from her gp, who pointed her to the drink and drugs support here locally. She did a five day home detox - I stayed with her in case of seizures as she lived on her own, which is how I know - she’s been off alcohol since. Have you tried your gp in the first instance?

Whereabouts are you? If you are in the UK there are free services commissioned by the local Council, such as Change Grow Live and We Are With You. They will assess your needs and get you into a residential rehab centre, if that is what you need. It may be though that you don't need that and they can arrange for someone to be with you at home or as a day patient. You won't need to pay. Most people go through their GP but you can self refer.

Thank you.

Yes, I'm in the UK. I plan to self refer to community drug and alcohol service on Monday after doing a bit more reading around.

I don't particularly think I need^^ inpatient and would be better to just take a few days off work and do it at home - but I've no idea of the 'right' thing to do really.

I was going to AA and recently found the online SMART recovery meetings, but feel I need something more to help me do a hard reset.

SMART Recovery is brillliant, I am actually a trained SMART Recovery worker myself. Please give your local recovery centre a chance though, they will be lovely people and it could set you up for all kinds of opportunities. When I had to go there I was dreading it, but I I ended up loving it and working for them at a national level.

I did NHS outpatient rehab with online SMART meetings... They were brilliant
