Found out partner is gambling

I recently found out my partner is gambling. I knew he did this on and off (we’ve been together just over two years and have a 4 week old baby), however I genuinely believed it was a few quid here or there. Turns out it’s about £400-500 a month. I know this isn’t a lot in comparison to some but with a newborn that could go a long way.

I want to speak to him about it and help, but I’m not sure how to approach the subject because I found out because I went through his banking app (so technically snooped) but I only went through because I had an inkling… turns out I was right.

We were watching a program yesterday about gambling and I asked if he still did it. He said he spends £10 here and there; so lied straight to my face.

When I was pregnant he bought nothing for the baby, we make about the same amount of money and split bills equally. Is this him putting his gambling before our child?

Please someone help as I have no idea what to do and I’m in the newborn trenches!!!

www.gamcare.org.uk/

They provide information, advice and support for anyone affected by gambling harms.

They may be able to help you find a way to get your partner to admit he has an issue. Although, they will be a great support for you but unless he's ready to admit it not much will change.

You could suggest setting up a bank account for baby stuff, and/or bills etc, that you both contribute to. Then at least you know baby and bills cared for and he won't be able to take anything out without you knowing about it.

I'm an ex cocaine addict. You can search my name. You need to separate from this man unless he stops gambling 100% . Addicts will always, always lie and out their addiction advice everything else. It's possible to get over it but 99% of petite don't want to as it's hard and failure is common.

Why on earth did you allow him to get away without contributing to his child? Why aren't you both putting money away towards a mortgage/overpayments/a your life?
