Drug Addiction

A family member has a severe drug addiction, I'm the only one they have told and
I'm starting to realise (it's been 18months since I was told) they are unlikely to get better. I suspect its likely to kill them and only I know.
Not sure why I'm posting but I just needed to say it out loud 😔

I am sorry to hear this and that you have the burden of knowledge to carry alone. Could you share with someone in real life so you have someone to talk to about this at least? That way the weight may not feel so heavy on your shoulders.

Could you also encourage your family member to share this with other family members?

Do you think perhaps if this family member is at the point they will be killed by their addiction then perhaps more people know than you / they realise?

famanon.org.uk provides support for the families & friends of somebody with a suspected drug problem. They have been a fantastic support to me, they have a website, forum, helpline, literature and meetings. I found that it’s been really helpful to talk and share with others in a similar situation.

Thank you, I will look at Famanon. Its very well hidden and episodes can be put down to other issues. They live alone and are probably what you would call a high functioning addict - holding down a god job ect

I'm really sorry to hear about the difficult situation you're in, Aworldofmyown. It's incredibly challenging when a family member is struggling with severe drug addiction, and you're the only one who knows. Remember that you don't have to go through this alone.

Consider seeking support and guidance from addiction treatment services. They can provide valuable assistance and resources for both you and your family member. Sometimes, just talking about it and seeking help can be the first step toward a positive change. You're not alone, and there are people and organizations that can offer assistance during this difficult time.
