Quitting vape - heart issues help!

Help!

I started vaping a year and a half ago, and the last 8 months I've been totally addicted.

I chain vape a lot - at my desk when working at home. I've tried cutting down and have had good phases but as soon as I'm stressed or busy at work, I just can't stop.

I'm now seriously worried about my health - I get heart palpitations, presumably from all the nicotine. My heart races at night and I'm now just in this constant state of paranoia whilst battling to quit. Last night the heart palpitations were so bad I almost went to A&E - I'm now determined I'm done.

I'm so freaked out I've damaged my heart, I'm convinced I'm going to have a heart attack -

Can someone please help chill me out? And any tips on quitting cold turkey -

Its strange because a vape is supposed to be a stop smoking aid..

How did you cut down smoking to get on the vape? Or are you telling me that you starting vaping when not addicted to nicotine in the first place!

If that's the case then what a dumb arse 🙄

Issues with vaping have been in the public domain for at least 5 years, what makes you think that you would be special and not affected by it.

Sorry for being harsh but come on.

What level nicotine are you using? I would cut that down first

Wow, what a horrible reply. Where did I say I was special? I'm simply asking for help.

Perhaps before calling someone a dumb arse may be consider that this is a place for help, not name calling. And perhaps also consider the implications of making someone feel worse than they did when they bravely asked for help in a public domain.

Shame on you - as someone that has suffered from domestic abuse, panic attacks and severe anxiety - please think about the fact that you've just made me feel even worse.

It's the Juul one which I believe is 18mg, I'm trying gum at the moment to cut down on the actual vaping without huge nicotine loss, hoping that helps.

Is it the nicotine, or the 'throat hit' that you enjoy?
Either way, if you buy a re-fillable vape kit, you can start buying liquids that are gradually less strong (go to 12, 6 then 3mg) or if you think you could, go straight to 0mg.

I think it's the throat hit, but clearly my body is hooked on the nicotine and the fact that I intake so much is giving me heart rush.

Yeah that's a good idea, maybe I'll cut down that way if I can't handle cold turkey! Thank you x

Ignore @Twattle , her username is very appropriate. I’d also recommend cutting down on the level of nicotine in your juice 😊.

The heart palpitations could just be being in the anxiety cycle of being anxious about it, vaping more, more anxiety, more vaping etc.

I would first up try to stop panicking. Easier said than done, I know, but be gentle with yourself. Try gradually reducing the nicotine strength if you can over a period of weeks. And maybe set rules for yourself, ie can only vape outside at certain times - like a work tea break time, or try not taking it everywhere you go - start leaving it at home when you go out.

This is what I’m currently doing. I leave it at home when I go out, at home I have set times (9am, 12pm, 3pm then just before bed) and I’m about to start reducing strength.

Going cold turkey is really fucking hard unless you’re fully committed to stopping completely and have a good plan set out. I’ve failed multiple times!

Best of luck though, and ignore the pissy comments. We have an addiction and we’re trying the best we can.

Thank you so much. Yep, I'm probably panicking and overthinking it too much, I'm terrible at that.

It really is an addiction isn't it, I feel so silly for ever starting. Sounds like you have a good plan in place, I might try that approach - and the cut down on nicotine.

Thank you so so much x

It's possibly the action of vaping that's addictive.

You take deep breaths when vaping or smoking and that gives a calming effect.

Could you swap to a nicotine free vape and use the nicotine lozenges.

It might be that once you don't get the microtome hit from the throat hit you'll find out what is the addiction is and you'll be able to then manage it better as you can find the right alternative for you

I've been vaping almost 10 years OP and have never had issues with palpations but I do get a dry mouth. I also vape constantly, wish I could give mines up.

I tried patches and almost passed out because the nicotine was so high I didn't realise. But maybe the lowest strenght patches could help?

Nicotine gum is good but maybe not great for the heart palpations as gum fills you with wind and can cause heart palpations sensations.

I currently vape 6mg of nicotine so quite low compared with disposable vape so you could try 6, then 3 and then 0. That's what I keep planning to do but haven't yet followed through 🫤
