Hello everyone,

I don't expect this thread will get many visitors as I don't think the addiction section is very active, but if anyone ever wants to talk about benzos I'm a willing listening ear.

Another great anti d for sleep is mirtazapine. Has changed my life in combo with sertraline for depression/ anxiety.

I've had short courses of benzos and z class drugs in the past. Can honestly say the anti ds have been the real solution. And getting older.

If anxiety is causing insomnia (which has happened to me on and off for about a decase), only SNRI Venlafaxine sorted out both my sleep and my anxiety. Life is jolly again and it got me through two pregnancies and breastfeeding (mixed).

If sleep,is a magor part of your anxiety problem then I believe in finding the best SRNI or better, SNRI for you. But many people don't want to go that far. I wanted to have my babies while sane, on an even keel. So got the top advice on these drugs in pregnancy. Benzos all made me crazy,. I didnt like the immediacy of them, like a band aid. I wanted a proper cure for a good few years when I could stop worrying about everything, including sleep. It worked for me. No plans to come off them for a LONG time. Side effects have beeen minor. But to secure sleep I would have taken almost any side effect.

I’m prescribed Diazepam daily, Lorazepam PRN, Codeine, dihydrocodeine, promethazine, zopiclone and an anti psychotic.

I’ve been addicted to illegal drugs but worries what the GP gives me is worse.

I also butvover the counter and drink sometimes.

I know that this is an old thread but I am struggling with my 17yr old dd and her taking a lot of xanax. It seems to be the street drug of choice for a lot of teenagers at the moment. She has had issues with desression and anxiety under camhs on and off for the last three years. She was prescribed sertraline, which really helped. She decided to stop taking that, but 6 months down the line it turns out she is taking xanax frequently and is finding it hard to stop. She buys it with her friends...literally like weed! Camhs are aware and have said that unless she wants to stop there is nothing they or I can do! I am going out of my mind. She is going begween being honest, which makes me think she is desperate for some help, and lying through her teeth in order to continue. She will be 18 very soon and then camhs will be gone and we will be in a new situation altogether. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am not financially funding her anymore...she has a weekend job that pays i to her own bank account and she spends it hiw she sees fit!

seriouslyworried, it might be worth starting your own thread to get more responses. What a difficult situation. Although the usual advice is that addicts have to be ready to stop, I do think that a teen abusing benzos is a special case.
Baylissa Fredericks is a very genuine person working in this area:
baylissa.com/symptoms
Although her new website has a membership structure which might be a bit off putting at first. She might be able to advise where to get best info for helping teens. Flowers

Also, depending where you are in he country there are some local benzo support services:
benzo.org.uk/support.htm

I’d be very wary of any private rehab as if she is physically dependent on Xanax then the tapering off withdrawal needs to be really slow, once she decides to do so. So it doesn’t fit into a 6-week or 3-month type rehab program.

Hi! Looking for some advice.
I was given 2mg lorazepam to help with insomnia for five weeks. I'm pregnant.
I took myself down to 0.5mg lorazepam in those five weeks as was terrified of getting dependant. Then they moved me to 3mg of Valium to taper down.
I went down to 1mg after one night of 3mg then after five nights I tried 0.5mg but the last five days have been getting consistently harder; increased anxiety, panic attacks, vomiting, dizziness.
I am due to give birth next week and I just don't think I can do this right now.
I'm going to ask if I can take 1mg until after the baby is here then use the liquid to taper slowly. Any thoughts?
I'm really sensitive to medication!!!
