Exercise trousers that don't shrink

I have recently started going to the gym again. I am very overweight, and hence don't have a huge amount of choice of places to buy workout clothes - and Evans yoga trousers shrink appallingly!

I bought a pair at the weekend, and the first time I washed them I used the cold cycle, and then dried them by hanging them up in the conservatory, not tumbledrying - and they still bloody shrank so now the ends of the legs flap round my ankles and make me look ridiculous.

I know I probably look ridiculous anyway - an obese woman sweating away in the gym - but I'd like to look as good as I can, and be reasonably happy with the way I look.

So do any of the wise style and beauty mumsnetters know either what I can do to make my trousers stay the length they are when I buy them, or where I can buy large sizes of workout clothes that won't shrink.

M&S go up to a size 28 in some of their bottoms.

Thanks for that, dexter - I'll have a look at them.

Another vote for M&S cheapo bottoms here - about £15, black, navy, grey, 3 leg lengths - buy them too long to account for even slight shrinkage. I agree you must feel good about what you wear to the gym.

I went to M&S today, and found a pair of three-quarter lengths in my size, and a pair of yoga trousers that came in different lengths, and the 'long' is very long on me, so even if it shrinks, it should be fine.

And I got the shrunken pair exchanged at Evans, so with a bit of luck, that's me sorted.

Many thanks for the advice, Lastyearsmodel and dexter!

Woohoo! Result. That's you motivated to go the gym at least twice this week, just to wear new trews.

Sweaty Betty yoga pants are fantastic.

I bought lots of the roll down top ones for pregnancy (v.common apparently) and wear them still.
Would wear them to the gym but no longer go.
I've washed them countless times and they've never shrunk (also tumble dried ferociously) and they are super stretchy.

In sale at the moment half price.

Absolutely, Lastyearsmodel - I went today and felt good in my new trousies! Not only are they M&S trousies, the long ones are size 22!! And they fit! They're in the washing machine now, so we'll see how they do in the shrinkage situation.

The sweaty betty ones sound good, morag - I'll go and have a look to see if they have ones that will accomodate my mahooosive backside - otherwise I'll file them away as ones to go for when I am all slim and sylph-like. Though I have been to the gym 8 times now, and I'm still more or less the same size - I don't understand it!!

Update - the M&S trousers are out of the wash, and they still seem to be the same length!! I heart M&S!!
