Hi, we're going to an Alice in wonderland event and wanted a really cool Alice costume for my daughter. She's 5.5 but is very tall and wears 7-8 clothes. I have a pretty pale blue vintage dress with ruffles down the front.
I thought about some black and white stipey tights and some white or black fingerless lace gloves. Where do you think I can find these things? I'm not sure they'd even do the gloves in her size. They are a bit rock chick for a 5 year old. I was going to give her a big black bow hairband too.
If you have any other ideas, please let me know.

New look have these gloves.

I would think stitching the seam at teh side to make them smaller would be fairly easy.

She needs a white pinafore too? No need for gloves, I've never seen them in any illustrations.

Are you going to the Alice day at Ascot?

bridesmaid gloves. You could chop teh fingers off if that's the look!

Or possibly it's not called an pinafore, I always thought it was. The white apron thing.

Why gloves?

mummyloveslucy · 08/07/2010 20:11

Thanks, no it's not Ascot, it's at a castle.
I got the gloves idea from the Tib Burton film. I know they are not important, but thought they would look good.
The dress has a ruffled front, so she could have a white apron around the waist.

Thanks, I looked at the bridesmaid gloves, they would be good with no fingers. I went to the colour options to see if they came in black. (No!)

The gloves were to do with the white rabbit though not Alice herself in the book. I haven't seen the Tim Burton film (or the Disney). If you can't find any how about giving her some mens white dress gloves to lose carry instead.

If you want an instantly recognizable Alice you need a blue dress, black patent Mary Janes, white or white and black striped tights, (what I persist in calling) a most importantly a pinafore, there is always one. Maybe a black hair band with bow.

Oooh, was interested to see some of the Tim Burton images. I think I'd like to see the film!

Anyway, this may actually be helpful, photos 34 and 38 of these stills show the gloves as totally fingerless. To my eye they look to be cut from tights...

Thanks, I'd like her to go as the mad hatter. That would be so much fun to create, but she won't because "he's a boy!" Oh well.
