fascinator ettiquette?

Please help...

My sister in law's wedding is this Saturday, and although I've been de-bridesmaided (long story!) I'm still at the top table...

I have a fascinator to wear, but have never worn one before- all the other women in the family seem to be wearing hats.

My fascinator is quite large- its on a headband/alice band thing, and is basically a large disc with flowers etc on top...so almost as big as a hat...

My questions is- during the meal, am I supposed to keep this on my head? If it was just a small tuft of feathers I would, but as it looks like a hat, what are the rules? What if mother of the bride/groom take their hats off???

Maybe I'm thinking too much about it!
Thank you!!!

The rules are that you don't take it off during the meal (you don't take hats off either)

I'm not sure people follow the proper rules anymore though so if I were you I'd take it off when the bride/mother of the bride takes their veil/hat off.

I agree with Laurie, keep an eye out for what the other ladies are doing and follow suit. You should be safe to take it off after the meal as it's usually party time then!
