What colour shall I dye my gorgeous Gap jacket I bought yesterday?

I was so lucky in the sale and bought a fab double breasted light white cotton jacket with big white buttons. It fits so nicely and was nice enough to dress up a bit, I spotted another at the till so bought them both (Whenever I love something I always wish I'd done this!)

They were £7 each and I want to keep one and dye another but am stuck for which colour and was wondering about a nude shade but dylon don't do a very nice shade.

Any suggestions? I thought Navy could be a good bet?

Are you willing to change the buttons?

You may look a bit military or eighties with a navy jacket with white buttons.

Are there any other dye companies that may offer wider range of shades?

Do you realise that the stitching is likely to be nylon, so it won't dye? You'll have a coloured jacket with white stitching. It can look great though, just making sure you know.

Hmmm didn't consider the thread/stitching actually and thought the white buttons could look good in a retro topshop kind of way LOL

I dyed some dungarees of ds navy (from abeautiful pale blue and white stripe that stained) and it had white and red nylon stitching, looked really good

watch out for dark colours if you're using washing machine dye. I did a batch about 3 months ago and still occasionally find a patch of navy colour coming out in a wash. No idea where it is hiding.

If you look here there's a much larger range of colours and dyes than you get in the shops.

FellatioNelson · 05/07/2010 11:32

Best go for a pale colour then given the stitching problem. Lemon?

Pale grey would probably look nice, and be useful...
