Am going on a works do to York races, just found out we're going in the County Stand and I have NOTHING appropriate to wear, am feeling dead fat and am totally skint (am bit fed up about it to be honest but am committed to going now)

Would I look really underdressed in white linen pants? Was going to wear them with a black bandeau top...feels like what other people might wear to a barbeque though...

Please don't.

If you are "dead fat" a bandeau top is the last thing you should wear.
A longline tunic would look better, and cover up white linen arse- which frankly is the only way to wear white linen.

tethersend...why not? will i just look like i'm going shopping?

my bandeau top is long and covers my bum and have got a black shrug...

have also got a longline tunic..maybe should just go for that...feel very 'mumsy' in it though...sigh...

White linen trousers are always wrong IMO- regardless of size- but especially for the races. Do you have a dress?

lol...oh...ok!

No, my problem is no, I don't have a dress, I don't suit dresses, have awful legs and massive boobs! Maxi dresses just make me look like a huge tent walking down the street...I have got one dress I suppose but it needs to be worn with black heels and don't think they look very summery...god, I hate dressy up do's!

I live very near the Knavesmire in York and consequently go to the races there quite a lot. Believe me there will be all sorts of outfits there, from the uber cool to the downright tarty. You will not be alone in white linen trousers or in a bandeau top. A lot of the young go there to cop on so on a warm day (and most colder ones!) there is a lot of flesh on show. There tends to be a lot of standing up and so comfy feet, although difficult to acheive whilst still looking good are essential in my opinion. When are you going? If it is for Ebor in August then people do tend to try a bit more and dress more formally. If you are not into this sort of thing I would not buy anything speacial - it is only one day. If you are going to a Saturday meeting or a music showcase the dress is more casual anyway. Put your money into clothers you will wear. Perhaps buy a funky bag or (non-chav)jewellery to give your outfit an upgrade? Hope this helps.
