Can you identify and find these two dresses that I saw and loved on other people this weekend?

Dress 1:

maxi, cotton
straight across neckline with smocked top (over bust area) with spaghetti straps tied on shoulders in bow
quite full skirted, poss tiered
the most gorgeous floral print in bright purple and orange, maybe some yellow in there aswell

Dress 2:

maxi, jersey material
slim fitting more columny style
gathered neckline front and back (racer -ish shaped back), gathered onto a single string which formed shoulder straps ifswim.
graduated stripe pattern - narrower stripes to waist then wider stripes to floor
coffee and black coloured stripes.

Both wearers looked absolutely stunning.

esher, can't really help you, but saw a maxi from Republic in Times Style today, and when I looked at their website, they had quite a variety. Worth a look? here

FritziGreenEyes · 04/07/2010 20:39

Both sound lovely esher but I have no idea. Maybe we should start taking photos of outfits from people we see on the street a la Scott Schuman and post them here to make identifying easier?

I saw a picture on the Sartorialist website last summer of a woman in Paris (where else?) wearing the most beautiful cream cotton summer dress. Couldn't find it or anything similar...

brimfull · 04/07/2010 20:43

is this the stripey one??

dexter73 · 04/07/2010 20:43

This is as close as I can find to the first description.

brimfull · 04/07/2010 20:50

I was just about to link to that one dexter!

eshermummy · 04/07/2010 21:07

Nope, neither is either (that must be grammatically incorrect)

The stripey one - I don't think I have described the neckline very well, if you took the dress off the neckline would consist of a circular cord with the front and back sections of the dress strung along it (bit like a string bikini). Does that make sense? Hence the back is racer back shaped as it puckers/gathers in the centre of the cord, likewise at front so quite cut away at the sides - strapless bra required i would think.

The floral one is same shape as quite a few on the river Island site (sorry, can't link) but the print is sort of reminiscent in feel to this

God, it is really bugging me now, where the hell can they be from?

You will be having strange dreams tonight about trying to get those dresses!

tigerbear · 04/07/2010 21:17

Monsoon? If they are printed and lots of colour, it's got to be worth a shot...

eshermummy · 04/07/2010 21:21

Tried monsoon - not there but it isn't really a monsoon dress tbh.

Where's tethersend, I need to call in the searching cavalry

racingheart · 04/07/2010 21:22

Is this the first one?

racingheart · 04/07/2010 21:23

Duh - should've checked Dexter's link first!

HalfTermHero · 04/07/2010 21:41

They might be dresses that were bought last summer?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 04/07/2010 22:17

Sod's law dictates they "bought it in a little boutique in Bordeaux"

The 2nd one you described sounds very much like my friend's dress from River Island. Bought just a few weeks ago.

Can't see it on their website though - sorry!!

nikki1978 · 04/07/2010 22:44

Is the neckline for the second one like this:-

nikki1978 · 04/07/2010 22:49

I am guessing this is not the first one but is the colouring similar?

nikki1978 · 04/07/2010 22:54

Argghh forgot to link sorry

eshermummy · 05/07/2010 10:37

yes nikki1978 - the neckline on the second one is just like the max mara one , hurrah that someone understood my crap description.

Nope, the Debenhams one isn't the floral one - the one I saw was predominantly purple and more cottony with quite a swishy skirt.

LetThemEatCake · 05/07/2010 10:41

you didn't just ask the people where they were from??

wally.

eshermummy · 05/07/2010 10:47

I know, I should've just asked but although I am quite happy complimenting a stranger on their dress/shoes whatever I can never quite bring myself to ask them where they got it from too (different with mates).
It makes me feel all, can't remember the name of the film but the one where the girl starts dressing like the other girl and tries to steal her life, what was it called?

OP posts:
TheBossofMe · 05/07/2010 10:50

Single White Female.

I watch too many films.

LetThemEatCake · 05/07/2010 10:51
