Have just turned forty and become a first time mother-DS a month old... Had an EMC, so won't be ready to buy clothes just yettill gargantuan tummy subsides...sigh... Would like recommendations re: where to buy stylish clothes that are fashionable without being teenagery. Am also on a fixed income so prices matter too!! Thanks for the help.

Gap, Muji, Marks and Spencer are pretty safe. Uniqlo is cheap and sells lots of different styles of T-shirt.

But ... don't rush into that fear-of-mutton feeling. Lots of women feel like that when they become mothers - it kind of knocks you for six wrt your "look", and, I guess, how you want to be perceived by others, especially wrt to sexiness, to be blunt. Boden is founded on this post-birth wobble.

So don't panic just yet!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 29/06/2010 18:45

FolornHope · 29/06/2010 18:46

SandyBits · 29/06/2010 18:47

FolornHope · 29/06/2010 18:48

this, provided it is longer in RL than on the model, plus a cotton top (Primark do cheap ones - though they fall apart), and sandals/ballet pumps/converse, will probably turn you into identi-mum.

I don't mean that in a bad way. I suspect I'll be wearing something v. similar.

For cheap and cheerful - new look and h&m always worth a look.

And yes - don't go too mumsy - I made this mistake big time after having ds2 - luckily am back too my mutton ways after having dd

Thanks folks for the suggestions; while I don't intend to start wearing twin sets just yet, I long for the day I can stop wearing my maternity clothes- especially as people still think I'm pregnant because of my pudgy post section belly.
