Help! What to wear on cool night out?

littledawley · 27/06/2010 10:39

Am going to London with some friends next week and I have no idea what to wear. They are all very cool and always seem to look trendy without being over the top. I, on the other hand, never know what to wear.
I bought these (at full price and still haven't worn them ) but I'm worried that they make my backside look huge and I don't know what to put with them.
I guess that my natural comfort zone is a shift dress and a pair of Jimmy Choos but I'm trying to look a bit funkier.
Am a size 14 hourglass (huge norks!)

Please help wise ones!

Take the trousers back for a start. I can't see them working on an hourglass.
I have bought (and started a lengthy thread about) this dress and wore it on an evening out on friday night. Looked very nice, if you can find a bra that will support your norks. How old are you? Height? Colouring? And what will the night out entail?

cyb · 27/06/2010 11:24

yes take trousers back

you will never wear them again

yy how tall are you

cyb · 27/06/2010 11:36

In gap I tried on a lovely black linen short sleeved belted dress, buttoned up front, scoop neck very flattering.

with leggings underneath and wedges it would look very nice. £25 IIRC

WhatsWrongWithYou · 27/06/2010 12:11

I tried on this the other day and 'twas fab over my e-cups. You don't mention your colouring but you could wear this with fab heels and bare legs or maybe navy capris.

The ruffles (plus spanx) disguise lumps and bumps.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 27/06/2010 12:18

Just realised you're not talking about an evening out - strike the fab heels .

WhatsWrongWithYou · 27/06/2010 12:19

Oh, it is a night out.

tethersend · 27/06/2010 15:37

Something like this or this would work well.

littledawley · 27/06/2010 20:46

Thanks all - sorry I've been gone all day. Am loving the All saints dresses tethersend, might have to give them a go.
I am 5"4 - Love the dress that sandybits linked to but I can't do strapless (34 ff).
Can't easily take the trousers back as bought them in Reiss on a shopping trip but don't really live very near to it.
Am going to look at the other links now.

i hate all saints

tethersend · 27/06/2010 20:58

Will remember never to link to them for you then, Folorn.

You know, when it's your thread?

FolornHope · 27/06/2010 21:01

lol
fair dos!

pippinlippin · 27/06/2010 21:12

I would wear your normal comfort outfit and funk it up with accessories. ie big necklace or bangles etc. No need to spend a lot, just some cheap cheerful high street stuff is best.

You don't want to wear anything that isn't 'you' as you'll just be conscious and uncomfortable, which is far worse than not being trendy.

littledawley · 28/06/2010 09:30

Good advice pippin but I guess that I don't really know my comfort outfit properly or that I don't feel very comfortable in it any more. I love autumn and spring when jeans, a blazer and some great shoes is all you need....
What's the summer equivalent of that?

I was drooling over saw this in whistles this morning - it is lovely and would suit hourglass figure, although is bit pricey. They have got some nice stuff - it all looks so much nicer in real life than on website

littledawley · 28/06/2010 17:42

What was it popspig? The link just takes me to the overall page. Looked in my local Whistles the other day and there was nothing but there are some lovely bits on the website so I'll have a proper look when kiddies are in bed.
Thanks

Whereabouts in London are you off to littledawley?

There's a world of difference between suitable attire for Old Street and the King's Road

littledawley · 28/06/2010 18:55

Not sure where we are eating but we are ending up at Punk in Soho.

Brilliant. In that case, I stand by all saints.

Have a great time

popspig · 28/06/2010 20:40

Bloomin' site won't let me link to it - it's the tie front drape dress in navy for £135 if you choose the dresses tab. Think it would look good with some chunky sandals.

Maryqueenofchocs · 28/06/2010 21:33

littledawley shift dress and choos sound perfecto to me....trousers are not so perfecto....!

I'd love some choo's

littledawley · 28/06/2010 22:44

Mary - I have an enviable collection of very expensive shoes but they still don't detract from my huge arse
Pops - I love the one you are talking about but they only have it available in a size six which might be a tad small! I have ordered the Animal Bouquet drape dress (Orange print) which is a bit different for me so we shall see.

Thanks so much for all the advice.
