You know when you've been Boden-ed...

I've been having a bit of a style crisis - too old for most of my clothes and just feeling a bit "bleah". Finally caved in and ordered a Boden dress (here) which is quite "me".

Anyway, my point is that their marketing/communications etc is excellent. I'm really impressed with how they've constructed them. Also, I had entered my card details incorrectly and needed to call Customer Services. They were excellent. I'm really impressed.

Just hope the dress fits!

And a sale.

Johnnie B is too young for me (not to mention probably too small)

Johnnie B range is aimed at teens but if you are petite and shop wisely (no one want to look mutton) you can get some good T-shirts / jeans etc

Magalyxyz · 28/06/2010 15:36

belledame, does it fit you around the bust then!?!

ebojones · 28/06/2010 20:19

By my reckoning, the Medium = size 8 and Lareg size 10 in Ts and knitwear. The 28R jeans come up just a tad smaller than some size 10 jeans that I have from Next. The only thing that I had to return was a strappy floral sundress that was tight across bust.

I have been browsing preview collection - Loving some of the womens plain knits - so pleased to see they have stopped doing the twee contrast trims and fussy buttons. Johnnie B also has some nice accessories and a fab leather jacket that I have my eye on

I have NOTIHNG Boden in my wardrobe

I did have 2 pairs of wedge espadrills which made me feel so frumpy I got rid

Am I the only Non Boden person on MN?

ebojones · 28/06/2010 20:30

No!!!!! As I said in my earlier post, I am not a fan of their patterns but I do like some of their plain stuff.

tulpe · 28/06/2010 21:02

I am biased because I have many Boden things in my closet, but I do think it is possible to do Boden without looking Boden, iyswim. It's all about how you wear it and avoiding the hotchpotch print (as already pointed out )

I just placed an order on their preview site today:

Purple straight leg jeans (I wanted the Johnnie B ones as they were more plum but they have zips at the ankle )

Grass green baby cord tunic dress

and this slightly unusual option of dress because I thought it would look very funky with leggings and biker boots in an attempt to channel a Sonya Rykiel-esque vibe .

Slight hijack. Does anyone know what time the online sale starts on Friday ? Am thinking of inventing non existent doctors appointment so I can go in at the time I'm paid to start at 9.30 rather than the 9.00 meeting I do struggle to get in for.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 28/06/2010 21:58

can I put boden stuff in my basket before the sale or do I have to start afresh when the sale starts?

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 28/06/2010 22:01

Damn you! I was going to get that dress last week and they were out of stock.

Will they sell out if I wait until the sale?

FellatioNelson · 28/06/2010 22:37

I have tried to be a Boden girl but it all looks shite on me. I don't know what shape you have to be to be in that bracket of middle-classdom but I'm obviously not it. I look like Widow Twanky in Boden. BDSM if you want to spend even more money to get that very thrown together 'haven't tried hard' English look you could try Toast. Lovely. But also makes me resemble a dull dish-rag.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 28/06/2010 22:58

Darn, read the reviews of the dress

FellatioNelson · 28/06/2010 23:04

Don't worry about them - make your own mind up. We are all such a variety of shapes and sizes that unless the person reviewing is the same as you it's not relevant.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 28/06/2010 23:07

Good point.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/06/2010 23:13

The reviews mean nothing, the only time I pay attention is if there is universal agreement that you need to size down.

tulpe - I agree with you about doing Boden without looking Boden. I stick to the plainer stuff as a general rule and steer well clear of that circles print and it's fine.

I unashamedly love Boden though. Shopping is my idea of hell, shopping with a toddler is like being dragged through the seven circles and back again. So yay for Boden and them giving you three months to be organised enough to get to the PO to return things
