Non-classic emerald jewellery for my mum?

Hi there. A week or so ago I asked about jewellery for my mum. I am getting married and my mum is sad. Her engagement ring is a small emerald set in yellow gold, which she never liked. I think it is pretty, but peoe made rude comments about it being small and not a diamond, and my dad made a big thing about bargain hunting, so she feels sad about it being 'cheap'.

I don't know if I could make her feel better. I know it's not really about me. But she never spends anything on herself, and I wonder if she'd actually like some lovely jewellery. She never wears any jewellery normally, but she's mentioned the eternity rings other women she works with have, so she does notice them.

I don't know what to buy her. Some specific suggestions would be great. I saw a wonderful necklace with an emerald hanging from a tapered oval pendant decorated with tiny diamonds. It was very chic and different, and I know she would like something that is not classic - but I couldn't afford the 4K it cost.

Ideas for non-classic, pretty jewellery for my mum? If it's not emerald I would still love to know - really want to find her something lovely.

Hi, I think jewellery is such a personal thing and obviously so variable in price that it's difficult to suggest one thing, but how about looking at a site like Astley Clarke. You can sort by design/ price/ type / metal/ stone etc and that may give you an idea of what you'd like to buy.

Alternatively you could go to a decent jeweller and talk about redesigning/ resetting or finding a compatible piece. It depends how your mum feels about this.

I think it's shockingly rude for other people to comment on your mum's ring. My MIL's engagement ring had one teeny tiny diamond in it- now part of a bigger setting but she maintains it was perfectly adequate to go with her Mercedes Benz and she couldn't give a hoot what the other passengers in business class thought.
