Would you set a diamond into this watering can?

Lauriefairycake · 16/06/2010 19:02

here but in silver

I have a diamond I don't wear which was in my first engagement ring. I had it turned into a pendant where it just hangs solitarily and I don't wear it as it's boring.

I thought if I set it into something I might wear it more as I do wear a necklace every day.

Do you think it would look nice set into the side of this

It's quite large - a carat (pear shaped)

I think it'd look odd on the feather with it being pear shaped, unfortunately. Maybe you could have it susoended from the tip of the watering can where the blue stone is originally? I fear it may be too heavy though.

IMO it'd be lovely and quirky and very wearable placed (with a couple of the feathers, or something) on the cuff I linked to...

My first thought was no to the watreing can and to go with diamond pendant on it's own, as I have a fake one of these and I'd love a real one.

I though go for dainty classic jewellery and I see now that you prefer quirky and chunkier.

In that case the watering can is probably good for you. t

This is why internt fashion advice is hard, as it's diffiuclt to get a sense of someone elses style, and we just give advice on what we'd do. With friends you advise based on the kind of style you know they like and you know what suits them.

the watering could be your own everyday signature jewelerry that everyone notices about you. A la Carrie Bradshaw .

Ok Fairycake, having read your last post I am prepared to accept that the wathering can is the one for you. You want something quirky and it certainly will be. I say go for it! It will put a smile on your face and will probably be the only one in the world bearing a 1carat stone. Very individal and unique .

Love the idea of a peacock feather...

Lauriefairycake · 21/06/2010 13:46

Right - I visited Liberty yesterday and the watering can was the most ridiculously small size - the sapphire stone was practically invisible and the body of the can was not large enough to set a tiny diamond into never mind one of a carat.

So I went to Covent garden and got one which was 4 times the size (just big enough to set the diamond into) and was a third of the price - a really substantial charm.

I took it to the jeweller today and he's going to cut out the hole for the diamond and set it in and then polish it up so it's shiny silver - it's currently matt silver.

I cannot get over how tiny the alex Monroe pendants are - the peapod was so small (so was the feather) that you couldn't see what it was.

I think its going to look great and I'll post a picture in a couple of weeks when its ready and you can all laugh

I think these were fabulous ideas and love them
Quirky and unique
Can't believe the negativity on the thread
Is that lovely pea-pod that i have seen in magazines an Alex Monroe pendant?
That is lovely
V disappointing to hear that it is tiny

I can't wait to see your watering can
I''m trying to persuade DH to get me something similar instead of an eternity ring
An everyday, yet fabulously diamondy, necklace

Lauriefairycake · 21/06/2010 13:55

Yes Darrell that's the one - I was so surprised as I hadn't seen a pendant in the flesh at all and I was planning on getting the peapod for my birthday.

It's this size in the flesh and so thin you could bend it like tinfoil.

.

Completely not worth it. It's as wide as the o's on the page and tapers to a full stop size and is that long. The photos are very misleading.

That makes sense as it seemed reasonably priced compared to a lot of things in magazines
It would seem all style and no substance
Often the things I like are £25,000 and from Boodles

Tiffany has some diamond/gem insects/bees etc pendants which looked rather nice

mistressploppy · 21/06/2010 15:00

I know Alex - I'm going to tell him you think his stuff is too small

Marking my place so I can see the finished article

Lauriefairycake · 21/06/2010 15:47

The pendants are too small compared to what they look like on the website - the rings are fabulous and I got 5 for my wedding anniversary at Christmas (fifth anniversary)

The Tiffany bees etc are beautiful I agree. Am looking forward to seeing it, Laurie. I hope it is gorgeous and that you love it.

I love it

Good title. I don't share your taste in jewellery. Glad you found one you liked - quite amazing that you found a watering can charm in the exact size you wanted - I wouldn't have expected there to be a big choice of them

Think Darrell is funny to be shocked at the 'negativity'. Well, yes, that's because when you ask people in RL if they like your jewellery they say 'ooh, yes, very original' when they really mean 'why do you want a watering can round your neck?'

bethjeff · 04/07/2010 17:40

I'm a jeweller- if you try to set a diamond in your pendant it will most likely melt the entire thing.
I'd suggest going to visit your local jeweller- quirky individual jewellery is always fun for the wearer even if it's not to everyone's taste.
Jewellery doesn't have to be elegant- it can be fun! So ignore a lot of the boring twinset and pearls bunch on here.
A reputable jeweller would look at trading in any existing jewellery that you don't wear (ie: your earrings) and you could use the stones from them to create something fantastic!

Don't bow down to the bores!

Lauriefairycake · 04/07/2010 20:16

beth - the jeweller did manage to set it into it, pictures on profile
