very nice.

CarrieDaBabi · 13/06/2010 13:12

here
or there is this one, which is longer.

i'd probably get the short one in red or the longer one in dark pink

its lovely but
a..its not waterproof and
b...its dry clean

Kids school coats get very dirty and they also have to stand around in the rain not to ention play in it.

I am sure you want her to have a lovely coat etc but it really isn't that practical.

sorry to put a dampner on it

They are nice, I love that tartany short duffle, it's gorgeous. Would go for that personally as it would look clean for longer than bright red.
Does the school she will be attending insist on a duffle for children?

I wore a duffle for school, but I think it was brown, which is a lot less likely to show the dirt on the cuffs. I don't think it was cleaned very often, probably smelt vile.
Re the cleaning, I used to have a grey duffle for DS which I washed on cold and it shrank so that the cotton lining hung down below the hem, so it probably would have to be dry clean to be on the safe side.

I agree it might be an idea to get a raincoat or similar to go over the top of the coats.
Or a raincoat and fleece combo for rainy days (most of them really)

OrigamiYoda · 13/06/2010 13:58

i agree with bish i think you will need another coat that is rain and mud poof as well.

rowingboat · 13/06/2010 14:00

To be fair mud does brush off wool pretty well. I found that with the duffle I bought for DS.

samsonara · 13/06/2010 18:18

It's a cute coat but I would certainly get two different types, ie different fabrics and preferably a waterproof one too, rather than two that are the same fabric but different lengths

CarrieDaBabi · 13/06/2010 19:57

ok good idea, about getting 2 coats.
thanks for the replies

i think i will get her the red one, as i'm going to order red wellies too.
boots

and i will also look for a raincoat.

i don't think the preschool insist on a duffle or even prefer it, they have mentioned nothing about clothes.
i think they just weat what they want which in dds case would be a silly ballerina skirt!

The tartan one is my favourite but for really really cold weather I'd like a coat that is a bit longer. that only keeps top half warm

CarrieDaBabi · 13/06/2010 20:07

any suggestions of wear to look for a more practical 2nd coat?

DD ha had this sort of mac www.bodenpreview.co.uk/en-gb/Girls-Coats-Jackets/35062/Girls-Rainy-Day-Mac.html which we found great as they are waterproof and fleece-lined.

CarrieDaBabi · 13/06/2010 20:17

oh yes thanks, yes i was just looking at that one.

yes i like it.
the spotty one

here
what do you think to this?

The rain mac is quite nice.
Wippette do some cute old-fashioned fleece-lined raincoats.
I bought a waterproof coat from Viking Kids last year. It was very well made and the colours are lovely and bright in the Wintertime.
Their fleeces are a lovely quality as well.

CarrieDaBabi · 13/06/2010 21:57

here

oh i quite like this one..

what do you think

OP posts:
rowingboat · 13/06/2010 22:35

It's very cute. I'm never sure if I like fur hoods, but I think it is good for keeping the rain off.

Shaz10 · 13/06/2010 22:36

You need one that washes well. I took my preschool class outside to paint. My lovely dry clean only coat still has a huge red paint stain on it 4 years later!
