Everything is in the title, I am considering to buy a new straightener but I have no idea which one I should go for...

Any advice?

GHD's are much hotter and so faster than the other ones I had, even on my extremely thick and wavy hair!

CarlaBruni · 13/06/2010 15:11

What other straighteners have the posters used who've said they've "tried loads of others but GHDs are the best"? Only asking because teh last three hairdressers I've been to have all used non-GHDs plus hairdresser I know doesn't use them. Surely the GHD technology has been sufficiently copied eleswhere by now?

JohnPeelwasmyhero · 13/06/2010 15:59

I think my others are Nicky Clarke - must be about 5 years old and were a bargain from Argos. To be fair, they do work and lasted really well, but the GHD's are better.

AvadaKedavra · 13/06/2010 16:32

My hairdresser uses Corioliss which are good but not an awful lot cheaper than GHDs anyway.

Pootles2010 · 13/06/2010 16:48

Another vote for GHDs - and i'm really not one to ever spend that sort of money on anything really! They've lasted me 8 years so far. Mine are thin-ish, and do flicks/curls really nicely as well as obvious straightening. Pretty essential if you want to avoid the atomic-kitten look.

rookiemater · 13/06/2010 16:50

Yup yet again GHDs. Had two other pairs before I bought them, neither worked well but GHDs really do the trick.

AnyFuleKno · 13/06/2010 17:27

Agree CarlaBruni, Surely nearly all straighteners are very similar to GHDs now anyway. The price they are charging is outrageous (£120 for standard model). YOu can get a pair of the ones I've got for £70. Other posters are saying their straighteners are just as good. Also hairdressers don't seem to use them, and surely they would know if GHDs are really the best. I think there's a bit of a cult around the GHD name.

Tootlesmummy · 13/06/2010 18:03

I have used Vidal Sassoon and they weren't much cheaper than ghds but they were terrible.

I've been to vidal sassoon hairdressers and they also use ghds.

Another vote for babyliss 230. I bought mine 4 years ago for £40 - still going strong and cant tell the difference between them and GHD's for three times that price when straightening my hair.

AvadaKedavra · 13/06/2010 18:40

The new Tresemme ones with vibrating plates are pretty good too - once you get used to the sensation!

fatsatsuma · 13/06/2010 19:03

I have been following this with interest because I had some GHDs which blew up in my hand rather dramatically and I never got round to sending them back. They were about 3 years old anyway.

So I really need some new straighteners but def can't afford GHDs again, and was hoping to find some recommendations for cheaper ones.

The babyliss 230s sound interesting. Can someone who has them tell me which model, as there seem to be several if you google? They are clearly a LOT cheaper and sound very tempting.

Ladyhaha · 13/06/2010 21:23

My GHDs also blew up in my hand last year (my second pair in 5 years) so I went for the Babyliss 2085U Pro 230. My hair's long, thick and wavy and they do the trick for me.

They only snag is the on/off button is in a really stupid place so it's easy to accidentally switch them off whilst you're straightening... but that's my only complaint with them.

fatsatsuma · 13/06/2010 21:40

Thanks Ladyhaha. Off to google them now.

AvadaKedavra · 14/06/2010 08:52

yy agree with the button placement, my only gripe!

scratchmyback · 14/06/2010 14:48

Mrs SeanBean, tell me more about the Kerastase product you use.

When do you put it in your hair to straighten it? I blow dry my hair and then straighten - should this be put on my hair wet before i blow dry and straighten it?

Eve4Walle · 14/06/2010 15:46

GHD all the way.

You'll never regret spending the money on them and if you look after them properly, they'll last forever. My last pair died after 7 years of everyday use.

MrsSeanBean · 14/06/2010 19:14

scratchmyback - yes that's the way to use it.
