Having earned my stripes as a hard nut for not flinching whilst epilating, I decided to have a go on my bikini line.
My God.
Is thre anyoneout there who does it?
It HURT.
And I am TOUGH.
So back to the waxing for me.

I TOLD you not to

HeywoodJablome · 11/06/2010 19:21

Did you trim your long and curlies first?

I don't find it painful as long as it's short hair.

catinthehat2 · 11/06/2010 19:22

WHAT did I say?

WHAT was it??

I think you'll find it was something about bleeding stumps

HeywoodJablome · 11/06/2010 19:26

You lot are a bunch of wusses.

You bring shame on me.

deaddei · 11/06/2010 19:38

Yes I know (shamed into a corner)
It was horrible.
I'd only had waxing 4 weeks ago so it wasn't as if it was long and tendrilly.....

it's hideous isn't it.

i did one stripe a few months ago and gave up but noticed that that stripe grew back so much thinner and slower than the rest so braved it again.

the key is to work in from the sides and only do a tiny bit at a time, take deep breathes, do it in private so you can scream when necessary and have something cooling and absorbant to hand to deal with the aftermath.... shocking how much it bleeds

The results are totally worth it though

HeywoodJablome · 11/06/2010 20:09

Bleeds?

Bleeds?

What the merry hell are you using, a combine harvester??

TulipsInTheSunshine · 11/06/2010 20:16

nope, no farm machinery... just my lovely braun that barely tickles when used on my legs. But i have thick dark hair. Even my eyebrows bleed when i pluck them, and my bikini area is significantly thicker and denser

mankyscotslass · 11/06/2010 20:27

ARE YOU MAD???????

I do my legs, and under my arms, but nothing could persuade me to go near my lady garden with my epilator!

A bit of a trim and a shave round the edges before swimming does me fine.

Although when I think about it, I took the bit at a time approach to doing under my arms for the first few times.

Now it barely registers.

I'm sure there was someone who posted on here who never trimmed first and got the epilator tangled in her ladygarden.

HeywoodJablome · 11/06/2010 20:49

There you go then, Tulips, it's because you have pubic hair like tarantula's legs whilst mine is fine and delicate like a butterfly's.

ChaosInCamelot · 12/06/2010 07:47

I epilate my legs and underarm but just can't do bikini line. It hurts me too much (yet I find underarms fine). I use an electric trimmer on v short setting and then shave the sides! My hair grows quickly though, and I have v dark hair, so on holiday I have to do this every day. That was the main reason I started epilating. Leg shaving every day in summer was a hassle.

jamaisjedors · 12/06/2010 11:37

I have been known to do a little bit of bikini line (but I waxed there for years so there's not much left!)

Now what about upper lip - is that for the seriously foolhardy hard?

Am considering it.

catinthehat2 · 12/06/2010 11:41

Oh my goodness, you could be disfigured

muggglewump · 12/06/2010 11:43

2 paracetamol and a glass of wine first.

It grows back so sparsely now that it honestly doesn't hurt.

You need to do it when the regrowth is short too.

Try a wax first and then use epilator for regrowth, it will hurt if you're plowing into a full 70's bush.

TulipsInTheSunshine · 12/06/2010 12:22

jams... have contemplted doing my lips too but i'm not brave enough by far

catinthehat2 · 12/06/2010 12:24

muggggggglewump , are you talking upper lip still or has it moved on? A full 70's bush on the upper lip is a bit, well, Freddie Mercury is it not?

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 12/06/2010 12:25

Have been doing my bikini area a little at the time, like someone suggested. It certainly isn't comfortable, but so long as the hair is fairly short it's ok.

jamaisjedors · 12/06/2010 12:38

Not brave enough yet but I have loads of fine hairs on my upper lip and now a few darker ones have crept in.

DS1 kindly pointed this out to me and now it's all I can see when I look in the mirror.

1st beautician said - don't wax, your skin is too sensitive and it will be more noticeable than the hair.

2nd beautician I asked about IPL said they were too fine (but it was quite a dark room and she didn't look closely).

I think epilating is my only hope.

ice cubes beforehand à la Chandler on Friends?

TulipsInTheSunshine · 12/06/2010 12:40

sounds just like my upper lip... fine hairs but very dark and they seem so noticible to me.

I'm tempted to buy one of thse beauty wands and try that first.

jamaisjedors · 12/06/2010 12:46

What's a beauty wand?

Is it those things which are like springs that people were talking about a while ago on here?

muggglewump · 12/06/2010 12:47

I have a beauty wand for my top lip and really reccommend it.
The hair isn't too bad though.

MisSalLaneous · 12/06/2010 12:59

I need to wax my upper lip today. I'm trying to convince myself that ds's teething gel would numb the pain...
