What sort of person buys/ wears Jigsaw clothes?

moonstorm · 10/06/2010 20:41

I've been culling my wardrobe to force myself to buy more stuff post maternity and have noticed that the clothes that have washed the best/ lasted longest still looking new are all Jigsaw.

I have a couple of jackets, tops and camisoles. It's not cheap, but I don't mind if it lasts.

However, I always feel too young going in there (I'm 31) and sort through a lot of clothes before trying on.

So, just wondering what others think about the clothes/ the people who wear them! I am always worried, that my style is too simple/ plain and could err on the frumpy side, so really value your opinions!!

Thanks!

those who have too much money

purplepeony · 10/06/2010 20:48

me

nigglewiggle · 10/06/2010 20:51

I shopped there in my 20's, but the clothes don't fit anymore i'm adopting a more classic style these days .

traceybath · 10/06/2010 20:55

Well I'm wearing a scoop neck breton top and short sleeve cardigan from jigsaw today.

I'm 37 and like to think fairly stylish

As with most shops - I like some of their stuff but not all of it.

Has got a lot better this season though as new designers apparently.

wigglybeezer · 10/06/2010 20:58

I have bought clothes there on and off for nearly twenty years! (am now 42), I like the colours and fabrics in Jigsaw but the sizing is quite neat and I stopped buying for a while when i went up a size (am back to a 10/12 ATM).
I also buy from Toast but not from Boden (too much pink and purple for me!). Occassionally from Whistles and the odd thing from independant shops (like Noa Noa or Avoca).
They are more expensive but you can get years of wear out of them (and people often ask me where they came from).

ladysybil · 10/06/2010 20:59

those who like their clothes to last
those who dont want to wear disposable fashion
those who like clothes to fit
and those who arent on minimum wage

the question i want to ask is, who are the sort of people who buy primark?
it lasts all of one wash
it doesnt fit unless you are a size 8
it looks awful

FGM · 10/06/2010 21:02

I'm a fan. I'm 36 and fairly cool. Wore a jigsaw knitted dress over skinnies today and a red mac also jigsaw.

Agree this season is pretty good. A couple of years ago it was shapeless sacks all over.

My best ever coat is jigsaw; it was an expensive fed-up-with-being-fat-after-first-baby purchase but has turned out to be v low cost per wear.

MerryMarigold · 10/06/2010 21:05

I bought Jigsaw when I was single, working in Covent Garden in a good job, had to look good, was a size 10 and could afford it.

Now I wear Primark because I choose to stay at home and earn no money, my figure (my boobs/ belly/ bum) seems to change every 9 months and I my nearest Jigsaw involves a trip to Central London which I have no time for and would feel too insecure to do!

oiteach · 10/06/2010 21:08

why did you start this thread? Have just bought this

I blame you entirely.

purplepeony · 10/06/2010 21:11

I am ancient- 50+- but told I look early 40s...so I'll believe that- and am a size 8-10 in Jigsaw.

I have quite a bit from Jigsaw but mainly cardis. Recently bought the cool wool trouser- 50/50 linen and fine wool. Found most dresses this season either too £££ or too maternity style/smocky.

I love the fabrics and used to like the slight Bohemian flavour.

Think they are overpriced- some of the fine cotton T shirts get holes in quickly- but like the subtle colours and the fact that items co-ordinate.

ladysybil · 10/06/2010 21:13

but primark quality and fit is terrible unless you are a size 8. bigger sizes need the tailoring and quality fabrics or else you can look , well, not nice

Romilly70 · 10/06/2010 21:16

I used to shop there in my 20's when I was slimmer, richer and had a job which required me to look smart.
Now I'm 39, pregnant and only interested in elastic waistbands.

samsonara · 10/06/2010 21:21

I used to buy all my wool suits from jigsaw and the quality is good, does last well. I buy from jigsaw and am 42, I also buy from primark and today had a delivery from Jaegar. I buy what I like if I can aford wherever it's from including supermarkets. I still have primark satin trousers and shirts and skirts that are years old an dit great condition that I still wear, but then I don't buy the masses of cheap thin quality cottons they have alot of but in my experience , noteverything is throw away if you are picky.

moonstorm · 10/06/2010 22:11

at oiteach!

Phew! I can hold my head up going in there!

The cost per wear really matters to me. I don't mind saving for a while . I have just lost touch with the highstreet a little. This (pregnant) summer is comfort only, but I am saving for a shopping spree now as I am determind not to slip into a 'comfort'/ frumpy rut post pregnancy and I am earning at the momsnt and won't be soon !

i like jigsaw but tis out of my price range, and not colourful enough,

material, cut and quality wise great though.

i do think Jigsaw a bit more grown up than suits me also.

joliejolie · 10/06/2010 22:59

As I type I am wearing a charcoal grey boyfriend cardigan from 2007 that still looks amazing after about 100 washings. I even left it in a hotel in Chicago and paid for it to be posted back to the UK...THAT is how much I love it!!!

TheNextMrsDepp · 10/06/2010 23:05

I bought my wedding dress in Jigsaw! Not a white meringue, I might add, but a slinky burgundy number which I have worn several times since (hey, I'm not paying £150 for a dress I only wear once). As I signed the register with my two dcs on my lap, I figured the time for virginal white had passed......

Never bought anything there since (too expensive for me tbh).

DilysPrice · 10/06/2010 23:09

I bought two black skirt suits in Jigsaw when I was 30 - ten years ago, and I still wear them both more than once a week.
Also have a lovely navy suit which I was suckered into buying in the sale despite the fact that they only had it in a size slightly too small. I have worn it only once, because I am an idiot.
Unfortunately their trousers wouldn't fit me without major surgery (either on me or the trousers).
So the sort of person who buys their clothes is City workers over 30 who recognise a good investment when they see it and are probably less pear shaped than me.

beanlet · 11/06/2010 10:10

I really like Jigsaw because the quality is good and it's a bit quirky. I never like everything, but I often find something I like -- and their camisoles are a particularly good buy, pretty and long lasting. The fit IS a bit on the small side, but you just have to adjust. . .

I've been buying there since my salary allowed from my very late 20s.

Nuttybear · 11/06/2010 10:17

I've been shooping in Jigsaw since my mid-20's and I had the money & figure. Still like two or three bits from Jigsaw. If you go early in the morning staff very helpful like personal shoopers without the appointment. Best office skirt & dress from there approx 3 years old still looking good.
I think pick things that you need to last winter basics work for me.

Nuttybear · 11/06/2010 10:21

Ops! I mean shopping. oiteach I like that dress as it can be dressed up or down. Also polo neck underneath & jeggings with boots and you have a winter outfit.
I must admit I perfer more fitted clothes so off I go to the gym so I have a fitted body to go underneath. Size 14/16 now planning on being a nice solid 12 soon.
See ya!

oiteach · 11/06/2010 13:27

see I tried to justify it like that as well Nuttybear!

I'm planning to try a thin belt with cropped leggings and gladiators or similar as well.

Have fun at the gym!

i have a gigantic jigsaw opposite my workplace, but i go in surprisingly seldom as they are so overpriced.

that's a lovely colour oiteach.

tracey is it the red and white stripy? i keep putting it on and taking if off again, it shows my bosoms when i bend over.

MrsSeanBean · 11/06/2010 15:29

I used to like Jigsaw when I was slightly younger, oddly enough! Going back about 7 years, it was one of my favourite shops, raw edged linen etc. But times change and / or they seemed to go all funny about 3 years ago and have never fully recovered IMO, although I still see the odd thing I like there, but it's not a favourite any more.

The website also went downhill at about the same time. (And it only has a small %age of collection available anyway, a sales girl told me.)

As to the 'type', it always seems quite deserted when I visit a shop so quite hard to say.

FWIW, I am 38, work pt since ds. As to style, I like classic things, usually ignore the vagaries of 'this season', hate any form of l/jegging, and tend to invest in good quality (can be pricey) things which I wear for a very long time.
