Be honest - 38 weeks pregnant and rather 'large' but I really want a brazillian

I really want a brazillian, esp. as DS3 is due in 2 weeks and I cannot be fecked to trim, but couldn't anyway without serious risk of injury! I am not too self concious, but am acutely aware that I am coverd in stretchmarks (even on my skin around 'there'), a size 18, plus a big pregnant tummy. Oh, and also many scars from tearing and episiotomy. Is it all lovely groomed slim people that have this done, or will they not even bat an eyelid? I want to go the whole hog - everything bar a strip (i.e me arse ) Should I spare the poor sod that'll be doing it, or grin and bear it and leave a hefty tip?

If you have not had one before and are contemplating taking off hair you have never waxed before, Do not do it!
Waxing the first time really hurts, unless you have it done regularly, you are mad to do it when you can't see or reach it! Save the brazillian for when you want to perk up the bedroom action.
Be content with a tidy trim up!
When you do have it done, just be really confident sounding, ask if they do a lot of brazilians as you want someone experienced!
Then when you are on the couch, pull your own skin taught, no matter what position your legs are in!
They will not bat an eyelid

CuppaTeaJanice · 10/06/2010 18:45

Personally I'd get a mirror, razor and a tube of Veet, if it's the bald look you're after!

I've never put myself through the humiliation of even a bikini wax. If I ever did it would have to be done in a town far, far away!

Plus won't you be itchy in a couple of weeks? You really don't want to be hacking away at your nethers while they're still post-baby sore.

nancydrewrocks · 10/06/2010 18:47

Beauticians are not in the slightest bit fazed by size/scars etc. Last time I booked in for my californian (all off strip at front) they were trying to offer me an earlier appointment and I said no as I had my period - they said it didn't bother them in the slightest (too much for me though!)

That being said I had californians throughout all my pregnancies and they do hurt more...Also I had one at 37 wks with DS1 an hour or so after I had seen the midwife who told me there was no way my baby was coming any time soon. I went into labour about an hour after I left the salon!

plantsitter · 10/06/2010 18:48

I bought a tub of wax to wax my legs when pregnant, never having done it before, and it had a warning about being pregnant making it extra painful.

So I wouldn't.

MagalyZz · 10/06/2010 18:55

would you be able to stand the pain?

And why would you want to stand the pain?

Imaac if you must. I had my son premature well 37 wks so I was a hairy beast. I had other things on my mind. I don't think we should be trying to conform to pornoperfection whilst giving birth. Just my opinion.

MagalyZz · 10/06/2010 18:56

Nancydrewrocks, I bet your body interpreted the bikini wax as some kind of minor bodily trauma.....

PussinJimmyChoos · 10/06/2010 19:01

I would wait until post birth tbh...with all that bleeding after, if you are bald, you may find it 'travelling up the line' as it were and you will be quite messy...not to mention if you have stiches you will be itching and sore...

Besides, imho, a bit of a muff breaks up the hips...no hair and your hips look massive
Weird but true...

notnowbernard · 10/06/2010 19:11

I think you're absolutely barking to even be contemplating it

I am imagining the post-birth aftermath... and tackling regrowth

ladysybil · 10/06/2010 19:12

i had one on my due date. not a full out brazillian, but all the sides and front off. didnt faze the beautician at all

iskra · 10/06/2010 19:13

I love PussinJimmyChoos advice. A bit of muff breaks up the hips. That's my excuse for keeping it wild down there then.

I had a Brazilian - I have them occasionally - at the start of my pregnancy. It DEFINITELY hurt more than usual, & I have a high pain threshold. I bruised all over. I got my partner to give me a shave & trim down there towards the end!

muggglewump · 10/06/2010 19:13

They won't bat an eyelid, go for it if it's what you want.
Easier to keep clean and feel fresh with no hair too.

notjustapuppymum · 10/06/2010 19:28

They won't bat an eyelid (I am one and I wouldn't) and it will be much much easier to keep clean after the birth as mugggle has said - I speak from experience

zanz1bar · 10/06/2010 19:50

Go for it, I did, 39 weeks

And as I then had an emergency c-section I was very grateful I didn't have a dry shave with a hospital razor, shudder.

brimfull · 10/06/2010 20:23

why?

zanz1bar · 10/06/2010 20:45

Why...what
or whynot?

You have to give us more than one word ggirl.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 10/06/2010 21:00

Why? Just because I want to feel abit nicer down there, thought it may be easier and nicer for the MWs with stitching etc. but you have reminded me - does the regrowth hurt as much as after shaving? The itching drives me bonkers, otherwise I'd just get DH to help me shave. Besides, shaving lasts a day not long at all, then I get a rash and ingrown hairs and it drives me mad for about a week until it's all back - is waxing regrowth nicer and softer? Or still all ingrown and itchy? The pain doesn't bother me - I have my eyebrows done which is awful as my actual eyes start hurting, but the ripping is quite satisfying Why do you have to shave before a C/S, I may have to have one - if I get a wax shall I get the lot whipped off? THe hairs hide some of the muff stretch marks though [should have name changed]

brimfull · 10/06/2010 21:06

I mean why have awax before giving birth?

I don't think it will make any difference to the stitches etc-you'll get regrowth if they shave you and also with waxing.

ANd as for wanting to make your nether regions look trimmed and nice for the birth , don't think the midwife or whoever will notice an untrimmed fanjo..in fact I think they would notice a brzillian more and probably think it a bit weirdy imo

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 10/06/2010 21:10

But I am hairy. Think 70's Italian porn. Last time I tore in 5 places, I bet the poor sods couldn't see a darn thing

OP posts:
brimfull · 10/06/2010 21:12

lol at 70's italian porn

god don't worry , nurses and midwifes won't even notice

zanz1bar · 10/06/2010 21:42

Regrowth is slower than shaving But you may get some ingrowing hairs.

I am Yeti woman if left au naturel so liked the fact a brazillian meant I didnt have to give a dam about trimming the garden for weeks and weeks until it reached my knees.

monkeysmum79 · 10/06/2010 22:22

You go for it girl, if you have to go through the whole 'no modesty' of giving birth you may as well do it in style. Besides that area gets neglected as your belly gets bigger, give it a little TLC. Even better get your partner to do it for you, blokes a brilliant with razors. I didn't have time to do mine before the birth of my DD. Trust me i looked like i was harbouring another member of ZZ Top down there, it was all i could think about during the birth.

teta · 10/06/2010 22:28

God, are you a masochist?.If you tore last time you probably will again[i speak from experience!].I can't imagine the itchiness from regrowth plus the pain of having stitches just makes me shiver.I had my legs waxed for the first time when i was pregnant with my first and i had red sore lumps on my legs for weeks and i vowed never to have it done again.Plus the fluid retention in late pregancy could cause an even worse reaction!.Don't do it however perverse your wish.

beanlet · 11/06/2010 10:16

Don't have a wax or a shave -- the regrowth will drive you nuts at precisely the time you really don't want any more problems down there!

I'm going to get my DH to give me a no.1 all over with the trimmer before I go in -- you're right it's better if they can see, but there's really no point hurting yourself more than is strictly necessary!

Tidey · 11/06/2010 10:19

Why don't you or your DH just cut it really short, that way no pain, no itchy regrowth but still not too bushy. I was glad of the coverage tbh. Bad enough to have a room of people staring up you without being bald as well. Could just be me though.

Iwantscallops · 11/06/2010 10:27

I had a my full leg and bikini line done at 39 weeks and didn't really notice much difference with the pain. The hardest part was maneuvering myself into different positions!

Why don't you have a bikini wax and let your dh give you really short trim with hair clippers or scissors everywhere else? (Obviously this requires a lot of trust and a steady hand!).

Why not have a pedicure too so your toes look nice.

All the best for the birth!
