Who wants to help me spend some birthday money?

My present from DH is a whole head to toe, including accessories, outfit

I think it had better be high-streetish (though he hasn't specified a price range - heh heh heh). I am 5'6", size 16 and fat arsed pear shaped. With cankles. And norks.

No particular event, just want to spend the money wisely and find shoes, bag, accessories that work with the clothes. I am more of a spring/autumn colours girl than a winter/summer...

What would YOU buy for a Wilf-Dress-the-Doll?

Wilf, i would check oput this first, my favourite website ever.
Then I would book a personal shopper there.

A personal shopper is a great idea.

I overheard a very good one in Debenhams recently, but I'm sure JL would be fab too.

I am a bit about personal shoppers. Do people who don't want to wear a puce mother of the bride outfit get anything out of it?

I worry that I will just have to spend the whole time being polite about how awful their taste is, and then be depressed about how they 'envision' you, like going to a bad hairdresser.

Far better to be advised by a load of internet sprites who have no idea what you look like, obviously

Maybe I will try a JL personal shopper though...

I think personal shoppers listen to what you want and find things that suit, ie not brides mother-type outfits unless that's what soeone wants, but say casual going out outfit, or work outfit, etc.

You don't have to buy what they suggest anyway

I agree, John Lewis website is the best. I spend hours on there filling up my basket with yummy things, and choosing shoes and matching accessories that I won't actually buy, for a social life I don't actually have. But it beats watching telly.
