Hard skin remover

Not the nicest topic I know, but I just wondered if anyone could recommend a hard skin remover for feet?

I've bought Flexitol, which is brilliant for softening feet and making less dry, but I think I need to file some away (nice!).

I've tried pumice stones and a foot file (metal one), but they seem to just 'rub' rather than take anything off the foot.

Thanks!

Body Shop do a faboulous file-type-of-thing. It's blue plastic.

BuzzingNoise · 09/06/2010 08:46

It's in this picture, where it says hand and feet. I can't find a link to it on its own.

sheeplikessleep · 09/06/2010 08:48

thank you! so does it do its job? do you notice a difference? thanks for posting

I use this - it's rougher than a normal pumice stone and more effective.

bacon · 09/06/2010 12:11

You need to soak your feet first then when still soft and damp then rub with foot file. It removes loads of mine. Also can also exfloliate with a good cream from schol which is brill. Leave one damp feet leave to dry a little then scrub - this works better than scrubbing wet or dry feet.

thanks bacon

Best thing ever is the Scholl hard skin remover - literally grates the skin off , but it is amazing.

Can't use it if you're diabetic though as it's pretty brutal .

Oblomov · 09/06/2010 12:55

chic, i use it. am a diabetic of 35 years. it is fab. totally gross, as handfulls of skin comes off, totally gross. but fab. its like an apri facial scrub, for your feet, isn't it. best thing.
i file. use thta. then moisturising cream that is thick as glue. does wonders for my feet.

TheChicOfIt · 09/06/2010 13:00

It is great isn't it Oblomov.

I only mentioned the diabetic thing as that is what they say on the packet - I assume in case you are a bit over zealous and cut yourself.

I have always had horrendous hard skin that my mum has occasionally cut off with a scalpel .

This is the only thing that has ever worked.

NorbertDentressangle · 09/06/2010 13:00

Can I ask .... are any of you over 40 and did your dry and hard skin on the feet appear/get worse once you hit 40?

Mine used to be fine until the last year or two and now they are awful.

Not only is it dry and cracked but it also seems to be really discoloured too (I know,, I'm sorry)

TheChicOfIt · 09/06/2010 13:01

Sorry no, I'm 30 and it's been like this since I was a teenager .

sheeplikessleep · 09/06/2010 13:03

i'm 33 - hate my feet so much! i'm going to try that scholl hard skin remover, thanks for tip.

You're all youngsters then.

Wait 'til you reach 40....hard skin on your feet will be the least of your worries

BuzzingNoise · 09/06/2010 15:38

Yep, the Body Shop one does its job. I use it with Lush Fair Trade foot lotion which is ab fab fab!

CheeeseOnToast · 09/06/2010 16:35

No one's mentioned the Ped Egg yet! This is brilliant too, sheep. It's also a 'grater' style and is really effective. I soak my feet, grate them, then use thick moisturiser. Only down side of the Ped Egg is that you need to hold it at an angle, otherwise the shavings go on the floor.

Oh, and you won't be able to eat grated parmesan for a while after

I haven't tried the Scholl one yet, I might give it a whirl. I think my Ped Egg is getting a bit blunt.

bosch · 09/06/2010 16:44

Has anyone heard of feet eating fish then?

Am both intrigued and repulsed.

(use the scholl grater at end of shower and lots of foot cream overnight with bed socks myself)

pinkgrapefruitjuice · 09/06/2010 16:52

I second the ped egg, its fab, followed by the school purple foot file, followed by flexitol cream. feet are smooth as a baby's

pinkgrapefruitjuice · 09/06/2010 16:53

scholl, not school!

sheeplikessleep · 09/06/2010 18:20

thanks so much for posting! my feet thank you too!

I would try an appointment with a chriropodist - you can have one without needing a vercucca - I went last year and it was totally fab. Brilliant scrub of them, they were like babies feet...she told me loads of folks go in summer..which reminds me must make a new appt myself!

sheeplikessleep · 09/06/2010 18:37

popmum - can i ask how much you paid?

gailforce1 · 09/06/2010 20:34

If you are using the Pedegg for the first time don't go mad with it! I did and was very sore for a few days!!
What about having a pedicure at a local beauty salon - my local one uses Jessica products and they are great! You can keep your feet looking good after they have done all the hard work getting rid of your hard skin!!

popmum · 12/06/2010 08:54

sheeplikessheep-about £25 I think for 45 mins-1 hr. She had a mini sander and a big bucket to collect it all in (bleurrr!) It was bliss and she was so caring about feet. I do like a pedicure as well but they don't really get tough with my feet but the chiropodist did.

hettie · 12/06/2010 09:06

you need to find somone who does a "medi-pedi" google it for ones local to your area. Half way between chiropody and pedi, will sot you out then you just need maintainance...

sheeplikessleep · 12/06/2010 14:31

i bought the hard skin scholl thing this morning and just used it. it has pulled a lot off (yuk). gonna try using it over next few days and then i'll see where we are up to.

popmum - thanks for posting. would love to be able to get someone to take it all off for me. only thing is i have really tickly feet. even i myself can hardly touch the couple of hard skin bits under my toes on base of my foot, for my feet curl up when i do as it tickles so much!! i've gone at the heels with gusto, but i just can't stand the tickliness closer to my toes.

definitely something i'll look into - thanks for posting.

hettie - i'll google medi-pedi too, never heard of that!
