anyone fancy finding some websites for me?

OK, whilst I love the idea of being stylish, I get bored with shopping v quickly.

I live in the US, and having given up work, moved to a different climate, and have no idea of what shops are 'good', wondered if there is anyone who actually enjoys this kind of thing?

I could really do with:

  1. some 'nice' tops - not too sparkly, but the kind of thing you'd wear to the pub etc. I like floaty, light fabrics.
  1. a couple of pairs of jeans (i used to be a teacher, now I'm a SAHM, and my work wardrobe is def overdressed for everyday)
  1. a 'day dress' (actually, a school run dress ) just cos I've never owned one before.
  1. something for the long hot summer - I like capris & shorter trousers, nothing above the knee.

I'm about 5'7", overweight (UK size 18), with high waist & big hips (or a small waist, whatever, the hips stick out). Fair hair, a slight tan, and 41.

sadly, years of working mean that I STILL go to shops & find myself aiming for work wear.

One website I like is ann taylor although it's got lots of work clothes!

There are some good shops near me, but I don't have a lot of time for endlessly browsing. I just fancy finding some websites that have some more individual pieces, so I can look through & get some ideas.

btw - we have Boden here!! It's kind of the top of my price range, and either the basics are dull or it's too quirky - just to give you an idea of what I like!

Am I right in thinking you're looking for US websites, or are you looking for UK websites that deliver to the US?

kickassangel · 09/06/2010 12:40

US websites - or ones like Boden that cover both.

Have just heard that ASOS plans to launch over here.

It's just a pita - in the UK, I know which shops I'd head for for some inspiration - here I have to go round loads. Plus, I still head for the 'teacher look' and prob need to be more casual.

I don't even know which shops cater for bigger sizes, and not really keen on asking the shop assistants if they do clothes for lardy ladies.

ok, in the UK, I'd look at monsoon, dp, next.

H&M is definitely a teenager shop here, nothing for older/bigger ladies.

There seems to be LOADS of 'junior' clothing - older teens - in the mall, but then all the grown up stuff I look at & can imagine my mum wearing it.

I like Ann Taylor Loft

or the 'young' person's floor in Macy's.

I use this site a lot for browsing multiple UK stores - here is the US version www.shopstyle.com/

kickassangel · 13/06/2010 13:56

ooh, thank you, people.
sb - all my friends agree that the 'junior' section of macy's has the nicest clothes, but they only goup to about t size 2, maybe a 4. i think we probably have a much smaller macy's than you did. apparently there's a really nice big one near detroit, but now dd has finished school for the summer, it will be a while til i can go shopping there - hence the need for websites.

ok, so I like
this

this top

simple dress

bearing in mind that i'm over 40 & needing a big size, i think this could be a fashion disaster
