is this too drab to wear to a summer wedding with nice accessories and a shrug? i'm not a fan of frills. and it seems like so much maternity wear is girly. I'm a size 14, already huge norks, 5 foot 4. irish colouring. any suggestions gratefully considered....

Its pleasant - could dress up with red or pink.

There are loads of fab maternity occassion wear. Try e-bay for amazing deals. Isabella Oliver, Nicole, I cant remember the rest. I had a lovely skin tight lacy number for a wedding a few years ago - same height, size but no boobs.

Dont forget get a spray tan too!

Ronaldinhio · 08/06/2010 19:09

don't get a bloody spray tan!! too much opportunity for it to go wrong imo

wrap dresses?
Wallis good atm

moomaa · 08/06/2010 19:41

I have got this for a wedding link and am going to dress it up, but I don't much like it, I look like a giant bow but can't find anything better. It doesn't help that I don't much like the fashion at the mo. I tried on non maternity things in bigger sizes than normal but that was worse because it just made me realise that my boobs have got even more massive than I thought they had

I think yours will look ok, and you can wear it again if you go out for an evening or something.

stainesmassif · 08/06/2010 22:33

really ronaldinhio? i was thinking of a spray tan. how do they go wrong? i was thinking of doing a trial run. (on the other hand, i barely seem to have time to moisturise, where do i think i'll find time to spray tan?)
moomaa - why does so much mat wear have bows on it? they are ubiquitous.

I really like your dress stainesmassif. You could dress it up with a colourful handbag or flowers in your hair (or a fascinator if you are feeling posh). You will look blooming lovely anyway. I'm with Ronaldinhio on the spray tan - I have Irish-toned skin, tried a spray out before my wedding - I looked like Jordan without the hooters. If you have time to do a test run then go for it - if not beware the orange splodges and biscuit smell. St Tropez is supposed to be very good... give yourself time to lose the smell (i.e. don't have it done just before the wedding!)

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 09/06/2010 10:26

I do like the dress that you linked to. This is also lovely from M&Ps and there are no bows!

Mamas and Papas often have nice stuff - defintely worth an ebay trawl. Look for Top Shop too.

I always think that deep blue looks wonderful with your colouring. Could you have this Isabella Oliver maxi number taken up?

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 09/06/2010 10:29

PS: I have a very pale friend who swears by the Body Shop's tan stuff and has been using it for years. It gives her a lovely, very lightly tanned skin tone without making her look at all tangoed, so it might be worth a try.

bacon · 09/06/2010 10:51

Professional spray tans look fab. Must be going to the wrong salon.

Being tanned and pregnant gives you so much confidence.

I didnt have many bows on my mat wear, like I said I trawled through e-bay and bought some amazing wear for well under 50% than retail - some stuff only worn once.

I had this fab Nicole Michell dress in Mint looked fab. Wore it loads. You can get this brand alot cheaper and from UK supplier.
Expensive but sell it on after!

moomaa · 09/06/2010 14:50

That Tiffany Rose dress looks gorgeous bacon.

stainesmassif · 10/06/2010 19:31

i am so annoyed with myself, decided to go and buy the dress on the link and they've sold out of my size! dithering! bah. the tiffany rose dress is lovely, but i wouldn't dare wear it! i'm not pregnant enough yet to blame my lumps and bumps entirely on the baby...... florence - i already have the mamas and papas dress!

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 10/06/2010 20:36

Oh no!

That's funny about the M&P dress - I guess that it isn't dressy enough for a wedding?

What about this green wrap dress from Crave?

stainesmassif · 10/06/2010 20:45

it looks blue to me? pastels don't work well with my colouring either. i think.
now that i've worn the m&p dress a few times and washed it in the machine....no, not very dressy!! i saw another lovely cobalt blue grecian dress on crave, but they're sold out in my size til 1 week before the wedding and really don't want to leave it to chance.

What about this one from Debenhams (Red Herring)? It's only £25 and would look lovely with some accessories. I tried it on myself recenly but the size 16 was tight on me (am more of a size 18 really, plus pregnant with twins, and they'd sold out of those).

bellabelly · 10/06/2010 20:55

sold out of size 18s I mean, not sold out of twins, obviously...

stainesmassif · 10/06/2010 21:00

a bit girly for me, i don't think i could live up to it. i have made all sorts of restrictive rules for myself re clothes!

OP posts:
bellabelly · 10/06/2010 22:52

Hmm, well it is quite floral isn't it? What colours do you like?

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 11/06/2010 16:26

I get your point about the pastels...

I had forgotten about Next. How about this print dress?

Seraphine are worth checking out - I really love the silk dress but it is not cheap.

This Jojomamanbebe dress would look lovely with a pashmina.

stainesmassif · 11/06/2010 19:32

oooh, i like the jojmamabebe dress v much. next is viscose, is that man made? i tend to suit strong colours - or do i mean i like them? deep pinks, deep purple, scarlet, electric blue, jade green....not all together. but as a rule i wear black!

OP posts:
FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 11/06/2010 19:51

Ooh sorry, hadn't noticed the viscose. Yes, definitely a man-made fibre. Hopefully, the weather will be great for the wedding so that one is probably best avoided .

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 11/06/2010 19:52

Glad that you like the JJMB one.

stainesmassif · 11/06/2010 20:04

i sound so ungrateful...i'm really not!! i just don't seem to have a shopping head on me at the moment. am very appreciative of assistance!

OP posts:
FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 11/06/2010 20:09

Don't worry, I didn't think you were being ungrateful at all.

Shopping whilst pregnant for a wedding is the pits, so I am happy to help. I am a bit shocked at how few decent, reasonably priced maternity options there are. Let's set up a Mumsnet style and beauty co-operative and produce gorgeous dresses at decent prices.

stainesmassif · 11/06/2010 20:20

ooh, now you're linking into my long term fantasy of the mumsnet commune!
