What To Wear To Buckingham Palace Please?

I posted in chat last nigth, but someone kindly pointed me in this direction, I hadn't noticed the 'style and beauty' forum before.

My husband has his investiture next month, where he will be presented his military cross at Buckingham Palace by the Queen. I have no idea what to wear, but the bumpf they sent says it has to be knee length or below and a hat is 'preferable'.

I tried this on today:

2326&categoryNodeID=42967030&ref=sr13&page=&node=342618031&sr=1-3&mnSBrand=core&_encoding=UTF8&rh=

with the jacket, and it looked nice, but am not 100% sure it is right? I am also worried someone else might be wearing it, but I suppose that could happen with anything. I tried on a few hats but didn't really like any of them.

So, is the oufit ok and if not, any suggestions?

Also, where the heck do you find hats these days? Everywhere seems to mostly be fascinators and I definitely want a 'proper' hat.

Thankyou.

OK am back. The post office people were nice so I had an icecream to counter act the wrath.
I finally managed to open the link. I tried on that dress on the weekend. If you have really big boobs or are over a size 16 then it looks awful. It highlights every bump!
Hoever my size 12 friend tried it on and it looked fab on her.

stanausauruswrecks, thankyou very much for the link, but I am in South Down, so couldn't be much further away sadly! Typical...

LouIsWaltzingMatilda, thankyou. I did notice the dress was sort of 'stretchy' although it didn't look like it would be, so it does cling a bit. I do have huge boobs, and am a 14-16, but I am not lumpy at all. (I am very concious about lumps and bumps in clothing too!) I also hope to lose a stone before then, so it should look even better. Don't get me wrong, my boobs do look rather, um, larg ein it, but they don't look ridiculous. (they would look large in anything though, tbh! )

There is a jacket that goes with the dress that I also tried on, I am going to get that too, as I prefer my arms covered anyway and I think uncovered shoulders are a bit of a no no maybe?

Definitely wear a jacket! Whether you're a monarchist or not, she's still the Queen, and you can't get more formal than that.

Are the dogs getting new collars?

Hope you have a lovely day at the palace. You are rightly proud of your DH.
Just wanted to say a bit about hiring hats. I have done this in the past and you get a lovely hat, which you probably could not/would not choose to afford. They only hire them out a certain number of times; the lady I go to then sells them off much discounted. You can end up buying one at a really good price. Last time I went she had some hats which were worth £100s! The hats I have hired have not been 'manky' at all. You go to the place with your outfit and try on as many hats as you like. Quite good as you get to see the whole effect in a relaxed environment, rather than trying hats on in isolation - IYSWIM. I hired a hat for my niece's wedding which knocked the spots off all the others; I did have a very plain outfit so it needed a bit of oomph! I'm quite lucky having this hat hire place where I live.
