Heaviest coverage foundation?

JoJoBooBoo · 01/06/2010 16:28

I have slight melasma (brown patches) from pregnancy. On a daily basis I can't be bothered to cover it up that much and just use Vitalumiere etc. but I have some events coming up soon and I'd like to look more even-toned.

Anyone have any ideas of the best coverage foundation? I don't mind paying a bit more for something specialised. My skin is normal-oily, yellow-toned, prone to freckles.

I'm thinking Estee Lauder Double Wear but more coverage.

Thanks!

Revlon Colourstay? I think thats full coverage. Otherwise you'd be going into those camoflage makeups, but I doubt you'd need that.

tethersend · 01/06/2010 17:05

Try Bare Minerals- you can adjust the coverage, and it looks really natural; I was amazed at the coverage and gave up using concealer, which was miraculous.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/06/2010 17:10

Double Wear is the heaviest foundation I have ever come across in my travels.

i would recommend using a primer under your foundation - it makes skin look that much smoother and more even toned. i recommend the Loreal professionals primer (it's pale pink and comes in a pot with a black lid). It is excellent (several threads on here) and costs £12. Wear that under the double wear and I think that will be heavy enough.

JoJoBooBoo · 01/06/2010 17:31

Thanks, everyone.

GetOrf-I had not thought of a primer! Well, I had read about it on here but wasn't sure it would work. I used to have a Laura Mercier one years ago then the 'couldn't be arsed' factor kicked in.

Iate-I've never tried ColourStay- if it's not too expensive it might be worth a punt.

tethersend- have had mixed results with minerals- tried Mac but just not heavy enough. I'll serach for Bare Minerals, thanks.

Thanks. My 'mask of pregnancy' has not disappeared since giving birth (19 months on now)

Jojobooboo, since i had my DD (now 5) my skin is very sensitive to the sun and even with spf moisturiser I can get pigmentation from being outside. I think it would be worth also investing in a good moisteriser with high spf. I'm using dermlogica oil free block (spf 40)

la prairie caviar foundation truly amazing, feels fab on skin, amazing coverage and really comfortable to wear it also comes with a conceler in the lid. honestly you wont get better. plus it lasted a yr which is good as £117 .

nomorebooze · 01/06/2010 18:11

ps i found bare essentials minerals to light in coverage although good for summer / everyday wear. x

kando · 01/06/2010 18:14

Used Double Wear for years, but recently tried out Revlon's Colourstay. Have to say I'm impressed with it - the same coverage as EL Double Wear, but at half the price (or more than half - it's either £9.99 or £12.99). Really lovely foundation. HTH

Celery · 01/06/2010 18:18

Yes, I prefer Revlon colourstay to EL doublewear. It's a really good cheap-end foundation.

nomorebooze · 01/06/2010 18:24

again only my personal opinion but i have tried other full coverage foundations and feel like im wearing a mask which i hate, but with my earlier suggestion i get loads of compliments regarding how my skin looks even my makeup hating husband likes the 'natural' look la prairie gives my skin, even though full coverage.

God sorry, lol, i sound a sales person

tethersend · 01/06/2010 18:28

£117?

Is that for a vat?

nomorebooze · 01/06/2010 18:33

yeah i know but i make myself feel better by telling myself that it lasts ages even wearing every day before i was buying clarins radiance foundation every 2 monthes at 20 odd quid a pop which works out more than that! the joys of breaking prices down to justify, lol. seriously though its worth every penny and no need for seperate conceler which makes the Clarins even more costly.

tethersend · 01/06/2010 18:34

I love daily wear price justification

nomorebooze · 01/06/2010 18:35

me too also do it with shoes

tethersend · 01/06/2010 18:36

I tell DP the price per shoe

nomorebooze · 01/06/2010 18:36

lol

miche8 · 01/06/2010 19:04

estee lauder double wear gives far more coverage than the bare minerals. Benefits boing concealer is also very good. As is the clinique city block spf 40.

bacon · 01/06/2010 21:24

I swear by a spray tan, takes away the white glow and gives a great base to cover I'm terrible for picking spots so have scars). Then you wont need such a heavy foundation. The stuff now is brill, no streaks so easy around £8. Garnier etc. I do mine every 3 days.

ifancyashandy · 01/06/2010 21:27

Are you near a House of Fraser? Go see the Armani people - it's the one many many make up artists use and I love it. About £35 a pot but you need tiny amount.

Also get it in Selfridges, Harvey Nicks. Dont think I've seen it in John Lewis.

iloveasylumseekers · 01/06/2010 21:28

primer plus MAC studiofix (powder if you're younger/greasy skinned; liquid if you're older or with dry skin). Fabulous non mask like cover - have worn it to my own wedding and as a bridesmaid - no need to touch up, great selection of shades and not TOO expensive.

JoJoBooBoo · 02/06/2010 06:34

Oh man I am so confused now! Thanks. (I think.)

Estee Lauder do a maximum coverage foundation that's really good. Dunno if you're in London but if you are go to the MAC pro shop and buy their Full Coverage foundation - you get great coverage and it's waterproof so won't budge without make up remover and doesn't feel like a mask unlike colorstay.

darkandstormy · 02/06/2010 14:38

I don't really wear foundation now, but years ago I wore Elizabeth Arde flawless finish thick coverage, not sure if it is still around.

JoJoBooBoo · 05/06/2010 18:02

Well, I got some MAC Studio Tech and MAC StudioFix- have briefly tried them and they look good, if a bit shiny (although I am aweaty today)! Thanks.

MAC woman ij Space NK refused to sell me Full Coverage (they didn't have it in stock anyway) saying that I didn't need it, which was nice but just let me buy what I want! Grrr.

Thanks. Have been looking at tutorials on line and now I am after some foundation wedges and a proper poweder puff.

Thanks everyone! Man, I love MAC.
