I always feel like I should look good when flying on holiday and always seem to fail. I just dont quite pull it off. The bag is wrong, or shoes or something (I'm not very good at this kind of thing normally!)

whats your favourite outfit for looking good and not too uncomfortable.

I will be travelling with a 1 year old.... and DH.

I dress thus:

Ballet pumps
Grey Cashmere leggings
Long vest top (pale pink)
Waterfall cardi (doubles as shawl / blanket)

Carried in bag: pair of floppy, wide legged Ghost trousers, woolly socks and flip flops.

Put woolly socks on for flight.

When coming in to land in hot country, change leggings for floppy trousers, remove cardi and swap socks / ballet pumps for flip flops. Et voila - wearing vest tops, floppy trousers and flip flops and thus set for beach bar hot climate!

So, occasionally I do get the treat of going first class.

And so my big tip is that, in first class, the celebs get on the plane looking v. glam and instantly dive into the loos and put on a tracksuit - kind of sweaty betty yoga outfit, for want of a better description. They stay comfortable, relaxed, able to move around easily, sleep cosily, avoid DVT, it's natural fibres which as several equally cautious people have said minimises burns in case of a survivable crash and all in all is very suitable for the flight.

Then just before landing, they dive back into the loos and glam up.

So GiraffeYoga, to look really good, live up to your name and wear yoga gear!

I always wear shoes I can slip off so I can sit crossed-legged to breastfeed, or curl up into a ball and rock if travelling sans enfants.

A scarf is a good idea too.

Comfiest strides, not jeans.

Heaviest, bulkiest jacket.

dbm · 01/06/2010 22:26

always try and take a fresh top/T in your bag for a quick change before landing, at least you'll feel better, take something 'crease free' for most success

I'm also a fan of a selection of skin care sample size goodies to refresh my appearance and always take a toothbrush and paste - its all part of making me feel better even if I'm not celebrity glam

ifancyashandy · 01/06/2010 22:29

And I always wear full make up / hair. Board, take it all off, slap on a tonne of moisturiser.

Before landing, wash face, clean teeth, apply deodorant, re-aaply make up, sort hair.

(and whisper it but I have been upgraded to Business and First a few times)

It depends where you are going- if going somewhere hot I wear linen trousers and flat shoes or sandals, with a vest top and long cardigan- jazz up with some beads and a designer (style) big bag.

dbm · 01/06/2010 22:37

linen is lovely but I always end up looking like a scruffy monkey after a few hours of sitting and wriggling around

kickassangel · 02/06/2010 02:54

i take a pashmina or sarong - they can be amazingly useful & have almost limitless flexibility. i tend to use them for things like blankets/pillow/playtent, but i guess that in a worst case scenario, they could be used as a sail to help steer you across the ocean as you sit atop the flotation seat, blowing your whistle!

also, i have a big bag, which can go over my shoulder - i once gave myself tennis elbow carrying all mine & dd's stuff in a bag that i had to hold in my hand. so, one hand to control ADHD child, one hand to hold ridiculously heavy handbag, one hand to hold passports as you go through various checkpoints. erm ...

GiraffeYoga · 02/06/2010 08:50

Thanks for the great ideas. Will frisk my wardrobe laters.

I've just been away and wore white fit flops as they are really comfy, skinny jeans white t shirt and red biker style jacket with another white t shirt in my bag. I got a great white betty barcley bag in TK Max huge with plenty of internal sections and zipped pockets big enough to put passports etc in.

I really like the idea of maxi dress and denim jacket with large scarf pashmina or a patterned dress hides grubby marks 3/4 leggings flips and denim jacket..

Like the idea of differnt wee bags for stuff too although I just used resealable large sandwich bags so I could see everything and nothing leaked

BooKangaWonders · 02/06/2010 11:15

always layers - just flown in secret-support vest, vest top over, long sleeved shirt over that, cardi over all! Needed every layer at different times. And would second everyone's idea about loads of pockets.

Make sure your bag zips up - I lost make up bag last time out of my stylish but open bag

I travel in birkenstocks so easy for security, but take socks for the flight if I need them and don't care how I look for the flight, but arrive with warm feet!

Always have bikini in carry-on bag after lots of lost luggage, so it doubles as swimwear or spare underwear.

And non-metallic belt and necklace for security! Used scarf for belt this time.

But honestly, you're never going to see the other people on the flight again so be comfortable!

expatinscotland · 02/06/2010 11:19

jeans, tshirt, cardi, crocs for slipping off easily in airports.

scarf doubles as ponytail holder or do-rag.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 02/06/2010 11:48

It's a plane. Travelling by plane is shit. Where whatever makes it less shit.

motherbeyond · 02/06/2010 13:36
