Not sure where to put this, S&B might be a bit of a misnomer for this post but I have seen some MNetters refer to tie dying babygros. Anyone done this? Does it look ok and how do you do it?

They sound really nice!

i have done this for my boys

i just buy plain white babygrows from tescos, then use dylon dye to colour them,i use the cold water dye, so i tend to use elastic bands to get the tie dye effect then soak them in the dye, salt and dye fix for an hour before chucking them in the washing machine for a rinse.

i have made them as gifts for friends who have had babies as well

they are lovely, you can get some fab colours and each one is different.

oh if using new babygrows you MUST wash them first as otherwise the dye wont take, something to do with the starch or whatever there is in new clothes?

it really is very simple to do

Yup, I've done loads.

Might do a pile to cover the banana stains

Bumperlicious · 01/06/2010 19:40

How do you do it then flame? On the you tube video they had these great dyes in bottles which they just sort of sprayed on a left, which meant they could do different colours, but it was an american brand.

No, no, the whole point is to do it myself, so I can by some cheapy sleepsuits and brighten them up.

If you go to DT Crafts and look at procion dyes that is the best option. You make up as little or as much as you want, and can put them into different containers to put on etc. The starter kit looks quite good actually.

You'll need sodium carbonate fixer for babygros etc. The citric acid is for wool.
