OMG. £99 for hair cut.

Totally disillusioned after looking at the little card with prices. Used to have chin length hair with fringe (dyed dark). Went and paid about £89 restyle, t section highlights. Third time back, and bearing it mind my hair doesn't reach the bottom of my ears, I've paid £99 for a reshape and half highlights. Oh and a fiver on some treatment I really needed. There's no suggestion on the card that I couln't have waist length hair and pay the same for highlights. Really feel like a mug.

only the poncey salons are a rip off - i don't trust ultra trendy salons, have never been that impressed with them so far.

I think the cut is quite important if you've got the sort of hair that can't get away with a home cut ( I'm not brave enough - I do the dog and manage to make him bald!)

I pay £20 for a wet cut which a wash and cut and then just go home and colour it and blow dry it.

Saves £85 in my local salon.

I'm in SE and my salon charges between £85 and £99 for restyle and half head highlights too. Hence, I don't go nearly as often as I should! In fact, after one notssogood hairdo, I renounced Nice Salon Experience and took myself to the barber's instead, for about a year. Cost £8 for a trim!

I've yet to see a barber who will cut women's hair, though.

I'm in London and just paid £29 to have my long hair cut to shoulder length. Am very pleased with it, I've got one of the best cuts I've ever had. Local independent salon.

Surely its the colouring that whacks the prices up? That is the labour intensive aspect.

Expat - the barber in our local town has a rate for women - £8 (it might have gone up to a tenner now!). As opposed to about £6 for men. All you get is a straight trim, although the woman (maybe this was significant, as you don't often get women working in barbers) did offer to do some layering. I was a bit scared of letting her loose for £8 though!

i tend to pay £35 for my hair cut at the mark hill salon, but i colour it myself at home. miles cheaper that way.

ive tried local cheaper hair dressers but the cut is never a patch on my usual cut, so i dont mind paying a bit more for the cut and saving on the colour.

ifancyashandy · 01/06/2010 22:10

I pay £120 for cut and colour in London. Full head tint - not highlights. Not ultra-trendy, tiny salon and worth every penny.

Been going to same bloke for 10 years. He transformed my syrup hair.

kittya · 01/06/2010 22:48

I get annoyed when they charge you the full going rate for a blow dry after you have paid a fortune for the colour. That and the fact that my hairdresser seems to be getting promoted left right and centre so it goes up every time I visit!

grumpypants · 03/06/2010 09:54

yep, come to conclusion that i will grow it out, and pay for highlights. cannot go near bleach myself after terrible brittle white hair ncident. Friend yesterday (gorjus hair) pays 35 quid at home for cut and lights. Am getting number.
