it's like an old school satchel, nice though - i'd get one if £700 wasn't alot

desperateworkwife · 29/05/2010 21:05

You could buy alot of handbags for £700.....ummmm

HalfTermHero · 29/05/2010 23:17

I have one and no word of a lie it is fecking gorgeous. I got mine in February though when they were a little eaiser to get hold of.

janeite · 29/05/2010 23:25

It is lovely but silly money. I am currently trying to find a brown leather bag for less than 70 pounds, if anybody fancies helping?

Ronaldinhio · 30/05/2010 01:29

think it's boring..I'm done with Mulberry

faustina · 30/05/2010 06:22

I am a mulberry fan, but I think the Alexa looks a bit cheap tbh. There are some quite pretty new ones for Autumn

victoriascrumptious · 30/05/2010 10:38

I think it's over 9000

Is there a waiting list for the oak coloured one in the link?

It's just that there's one sitting on the shelf in my nearest House of Fraser (Croydon) if anyone's interested.

I don't dislike the Alexa, infact I think the pale pink one with metalic straps is quite pretty, but it's a bit dull. It's just a school satchel with a braided handle.

I prefer the Mitzy hobo myself.

skihorse · 30/05/2010 12:22

I don't care how nice it is - I could never, eve, ever part with 700 quid for a bag named after Alexa Chung.

If I want somewhere to keep my pro-ana literature, laxatives and smack I'll use a Tesco carrier bag.

Amandoh · 30/05/2010 13:27

Don't be silly Skihorse - Alexa eats loads but just can't put on weight / has a naturally high metabolism / all her family are slim / is so busy she doesn't have time to eat / forgets to eat / has an allergy etc.

wineismysaviour · 30/05/2010 14:11

I'm amazed there are over 9000 women willing to spend £700 on a handbag...

Halfterm was this a special once in a lifetime purchase, or do you regularly spend that on a bag.

Sorry if you think i'm being nosey, genuinely interested..?

I think I love Skihorse.

That is my quote of the week.

HalfTermHero · 30/05/2010 16:04

I do have several Mulberry bags, purses, pouches, keyrings. It is something of a hobby. Part of the reason the wait list is so long is that buyer's from abroad don't realise that department stores sell them too and so they register on a waiting list with mulberry stores and mulberry dot com website. Also shareholders in mulberry are entitled to a 20% discount if they buy from a mulberry store. They will be on the wait list too.

MadameOvary · 30/05/2010 19:18

Just get one of these ?

I don't carry a great deal in my bags so it is quite easy to swop. Any bits and bobs are in little pouches so they just lift out and go from bag to bag.

I like how a lovely bag really improves an outfit and can give you a 'put together' look.

Ooh! You'll have a lovely day in the smoke with Dd, lots of nice things to see I am sure. You'll be fine in your crocs and at least you'll be comfy! Hope you find something fab for her birthday.

janeite · 31/05/2010 12:46

Riven - am taking my 15 year old dd1 to London tomorrow. We usually go to Liberty and Selfridges to fondle the clothes. I will keep my eyes open for a croc-wearing non-handbag stroking woman, looking bored whilst an 18 year old drools over the shoes!

Halftermhero - which little pouches do you use?

MollieO · 31/05/2010 12:51

For me it would be a choice of a holiday with ds or the handbag. Based on his current behaviour the handbag option is tempting .

I got a lovely Celine handbag in the sale at Selfridges a few years ago - £80 reduced from £400 (I thought £80 was a lot). Bought it for a wedding and then used it for work afterwards. My secretary (young, lived at home, seemed to spend all her income on handbags) used to come into my office to stare at it .

HalfTermHero · 31/05/2010 14:29

I have mitzy pouches. Very useful and look nice as clutches if handheld and used on their own. I have a mitzy messenger too, it's a lovely comfy bag that goes with everything.

Maybe jewelry or a watch would be a good 18th present, Riven? Or does dd have her heart set on something in particular?

MmeLindt · 31/05/2010 14:54

I just bought a bag from Liebeskind Berlin which is similar to to the Alexa but was "only" €200. I want one of their slouchy bags too, I was torn between them. Lovely leather, very good quality and fab design.

How long do they have to wait then for their bag if there are 9000 before them in the queue?
