Breastfeeding dress for wedding

Trying4Baby1 · 29/05/2010 12:58

Hiya, first time posting so hope this works! I'm currently breastfeeding my 3 week old baby girl and we have a wedding to attend in two weeks today. I obviously didn't buy anything sooner as I had no idea what size I would be after the birth. I need to find a dress that will be flattering but still allow me to feed my baby comfortably and hopefully somewhat discetely. Can anyone help with suggestions please?

does it have to be a dress? would separates be easier?

MrsJamin · 29/05/2010 13:06

I went to a wedding when DS was a similar age and wore a dress that I could pull down at the top, and wore a cardigan that would do up to my neck like this to preserve my dignity. It worked really well as I really wanted to wear a dress rather than separates.

Hiya, and thanks for the quick responses! cyb I did think about seperates but even then I haven't found many nice tops that I thought would be suitable for a wedding, most of them seem to be more for every day wear.

MrsJamin I couldn't seem to get your link to open. I hadn't thought about using a cardigan though although it might be a good idea given the typical british weather anyway.

I wore

this

to a wedding recently and it worked a treat. Very flattering - I was 12 weeks post-partum so my tummy had receded quite a lot but I wore Spanz too for a bit of extra help! Got lots of compliments and was able to feed DS several times very discreetly. Just used a muslin for decency but a pashmina would work too. You could always order it and try it at home - it's free delivery over £50. And if you order two sizes to try, it'll be free next day delivery - and free returns so you can't go wrong really.

BTW, I got this dress after a similar thread on here - so thanks again to gingerkirsty - it was her idea

I've just bought this wrap dress to wear at a wedding. I plan to wear a cardy buttoned at the top when feeding. It's also available in black.

I bought a dress from here for a wedding when DS was 6 weeks and feeding like mad. It was lovely and very discreet. In fact, I still wear it to work sometimes and he stopped feeding months ago

I bought a kushi maxi dress from ebay for £20 like this, there's all sorts of other colours and if you wear a cardi or shawl, you'll be able to feed discreetly and it's quite flowing to hide lumps and bumps. If you've got a big bust (above an F cup) you'll need to be careful what bra you wear to fit your boobs into the top, but the dress straps were big.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

SoLong The dress is gorgeous but I don't think that style will suit me and it's a bit more than we can afford at the moment.

Cyteen I looked on their website and the dresses are gorgeous but a bit more than I wanted to spend as I don't wear dresses very often.

Claricestar Thanks loads, just been and ordered this dress. I think the black looks nicer but the pink will probably show up less stains if she's sick or anything (thats the hope anyway). They have free returns so if the dress doesn't look right I can return it with no problems.

Earheart I like these maxi dresses but do worry about the whole bra issue. I'm a DD so not as bad as an F but still need a good bra. I'm keeping an eye on a couple just in case the dress from Wallis doesn't work out.
