Epilators - do they hurt?

Just wondering, I'm fed up with shaving and too wimpy disorganised for waxing.

I heard they hurt loads but it gets better as the hair gets finer/weaker - true?

I used to practise for childbirth with mine. As I ripped out the hairs I used to make myself think "That doesn't hurt, it just tickles". Bizarrely, it worked. The birth of ds was pretty much pain free.

I have been using Tend Skin which gets rid of any probs with ingrowing hairs- honestly I have never been so pleased since I bought my epilator. It's a Philips Satinelle Ice thingummy I think, came with loads of pain reducing attachments but I gradually discarded all of these and now just use the normal epilator on its own, it's fine even on bikini and underarm. The bit that hurts most of all, interestingly, is the backs of my knees!

It hurts at first, but it is good pain, and you become numb to it, and now I barely feel it.
