Has anyone sold their old/broken gold? If so which is the best company to use and how much do you need to sell (in terms of pairs of earrings, necklaces etc) Thanks

If you live anywhere near a proper jeweller's, they're likely to give you a good price. A lot of company's are out to rip you off I'm afraid. In general, the ones you post to are less honest, so I'd look up the prices on the day you go and go into a few shops and ask them for the rates they pay. You'll be able to see them weigh your gold so you know they're not claiming it to be less than it is.
My brother-in-law-to-be owns a jeweller's and I've not heard of them not buying gold under a certain total weight and they won't care what it is.
If you have any foreign gold, that is much harder to sell because it will be mixed with metals not used in the UK, especially 22ct Asian gold.
I hope this helps a bit.
