Should I take fashion advice from a 9 year old?

Had a little wander in Clarks today and saw these [www.clarks.co.uk/find/product-is-20340012 sandals]. Tried them on and very comfortable - more so that the birks I have on as these has a soft sole for weary bones. 9 Year old dd who thinks she is a fashion guru said they were 'disgusting' in such a wilting tone that I left the shop. Am I heading towards old lady shoes and if so should I listen to a stroppy 9 yo? .

Not sure - I think they could be great if teamed with v. fashionable clothes - or dreadful if the standard 3/4 linen trousers and plain top.

Did you ask her to suggest anything else?

At least you have a definite honest/blunt "friend" on hand at all times for shopping trips!

If I took fashion advice from my dd(13) I would spend my life in tiny mini skirts and very high heels!

Oh god not looking good for trendy mum (or so I thought). DD just suggested I stick with the birks but to be honest I've been wearing birks of various styles from before she was born (the good ole days)

But they might not advise YOU to wear what THEY wear iyswim.

[clueless mother of 2 boys - although DS1 (5) did notice my very expensive new IKKS jacket whereas needless to say DH didn't.]

I have taken advice from DS2(13) since he said to me at the age of 8 "Hmmm, don't you think those trousers would be better on somebody a bit - well - younger?" He was right.

But those shoes are not v. different to birks are they? (am I missing something?)

It's probably because they are brown.

I think you need to pass 30 to start thinking brown is an acceptable colour for shoes. (I am in this situation!)

The soles are different to birks - are they old (squints at them) ladies soles?

They aren't disgusting but they aren't stylish either.

How about the red rather than the brown?

Listen to your dd. In my experience, at 9 they start to play a game at school which I like to call 'Mummy Top Trumps'.

It goes: X's mummy has the nicest clothes, but she never smiles.

Y's mummy has lovely hair but wears granny shoes.

And so on and on and on.....

Sorry I'm not keen on them. Red might be better but depends what you wear them with.

TBH, if I wanted some comfortable sandals for everyday wear, I wouldn´t listen to anyone but myself!

I certainly wouldn´t listen to a child!
