Help with a strapless bra for an ample bosom please

I'm going to a do next weekend and have at last found a suitable dress (not easy when I'll be 25 weeks pregnant!) but it needs a black strapless bra to go with it. I was never the smallest busted woman in the world but I'm now a 34FF/G. I've never owned a strapless bra, let alone with boobs this size, and don't know what to look out for or what to avoid. Please help me!
These are what I've found so far...
Bravissimo
Debenhams
Marks's

If it's relevant, this is the dress.

you are joking aren't you? I'm a J cup and haven't worn a strapless bra ever for years and years

good luck!!! and your dress is lovely!

Coderooo · 27/05/2010 16:18

yes the moulded ones are the best although look mad

aswellasyou · 27/05/2010 16:19

Oh don't say that to me ssd! I don't want to carry on my dress search, it nearly made me lose the will to live! Maybe someone has found something suitable somehwere.

Mad? OK I'm aiming for moulded. I might just go and try them all on!

I'm bigger than you (34GG/H) and have never worn a strapless bra until my honeymoon and decided enough was enough - I had a gorgeous dress to wear and so took the plunge.
I ordered about 15 and they were all useless except for the Ava one from Bravissimo.

Its the only strapless bra I have ever worn that gives any support.

I would normally shy away from 'moulded' because I always figured I don't need any more padding but its works really well as support, rather than padding and so is quite comfortable and supportive.

The only downside - its not exactly 'small' and may show at the sides of your dress - but at least if you get it in black it might not show too much and it should be really comfy.

HTH

Corset? Imagine you'd have to go to specialist (prob independent) posh underwear shop, and pay through the nose, but they are so good!

Pootles2010 · 27/05/2010 16:28

Alternatively, you could get a multiway (difficult to find in big size though) and use tit-tape to stick the neckline of your dress to the strap (in a halterneck style), i have done this and it looked good, however my neck was so so sore.

ssd · 27/05/2010 16:37

sorry

Coderooo · 27/05/2010 16:37

bollocks
they will befine
just go moulded

aswellasyou · 27/05/2010 17:19

Oh thankyou newmomma, it's not such a ridiculous idea then. I did think it looked quite big but, as you say, it won't be too noticeable under the dress.
I actually hadn't thought about a multiway Pootles-that widens the search a bit. I would consider a corset if I wasn't pregnant, but thanks for the suggestion.
I'm thinking Bravissimo is the way to go.
Thanks everyone!

I would defo go and try them on because I found that the sizes of the strapless bra's were always different to my normal bra's (usually bigger ).

these guys do them as well at a very good price and they have free shipping this weekends so you could order a couple and try them on at home and return or exchange anything that doesn't fit.

aswellasyou · 27/05/2010 17:48

Gosh they are cheap ticktockclock. I like the look of this one but was confused about the foldable flaps at first!?! I think I would prefer to try them on. I might just go to various shops tomorrow and see how I go from there. I could probably do with someone measuring me too just in case.

I am a 34 f and have a moulded Ultimo strapless which I am very pleased with. Came from Debenhams.

Pootles2010 · 27/05/2010 18:32

my god i can't believe i just suggested a corset for a pregnant woman. sorry. am 33 weeks myself and can't wait to have my waist back!

aswellasyou · 27/05/2010 18:47

I'll try that too, thanks lifeissweet. I guessed you didn't notice that in my post Pootles. I may well consider one as daily wear post birth. I've always been very curvy with a reasonably small waist so I now look like a series of beach balls all tied together.

That dress is lovely - and I'm a 32ff (not pregnant) but have worn a multiway bra when needed.

I went to John Lewis and they recommended one by Wonderbra - think it was called a Superbra, comes in big sizes and is moulded, has clear detatchable straps with notches all along the top seam, so it's pretty much guaranteed to fit any dress.

Would definitely recommend getting fitted if you have time - take the dress with you and walk out if you think the assistant doesn't know what she's talking about.

aswellasyou · 30/05/2010 17:14

Thanks for all your help everyone. I got this in the end. There were a few I tried that could withstand the jumping around test but I liked the fact that this one isn't so boring-I've always been a fancy matching bra and knickers sort of person until these gazongas turned up and are still growing every few weeks or so. I was surprised how small it was round the back though and I had to get a 36FF instead. I suppose it doesn't matter as long as it fits.
Thanks again all of you.

Well, at least with a baby bump you know your dress isn't going to be falling down too far

(hater of strapless bras and dresses here!)
