DD2 is getting confirmed tomorrow evening. We have known about this for six weeks. Logically, you would think it would have crossed my mind at some point to look out some sort of suitable outfit for her to wear. But no, I was in denial until teatime this evening when I asked her what she was supposed to wear tomorrow (probably hoping she would say school uniform/fancy dress/trackie bottoms and she said "It doesn't matter as long as it is formal and not too tight to kneel down in. You don't HAVE to wear white anymore the vicar says."
OH MY GOD...
She has a nice black and white strappy sundress that would look OK with white sandals and a cardigan. Or is that too informal? What does formal actually mean?
I am at work all day tomorrow, many miles from the nearest shops. I don't want her to look wrong. What do I do?
HELP.

No you dont have to wear white.
Is it CofE? What you suggest sounds fine.

Monty100 · 25/05/2010 23:14

Yes, I think the dress sounds fine.

TheFirstLady · 25/05/2010 23:17

It is CofE yes, Katisha. I was brought up Catholic, rejected it many years ago though so am basically in denial about DD choosing to do this. We had to wear the full monty including veils.
Sundress is nice, spaghetti straps which can be hidden by cardi and full skirt. Are bare feet OK in sandals or should she wear ankle socks? She is 10 btw.

I don't think it says anywhere 'suffer the little children and let them come to me... but only if they are wearing formal clothes'

The dress/cardi sounds nice.

Katisha · 25/05/2010 23:21

ANything will be fine. No need for socks if she doesnt want to wear them. Really, there is no dress code. I would pitch it,like you, at the smart end of casual.

GrimmaTheNome · 25/05/2010 23:22

WWJD? Bare feet and sandals surely OK!

toccatanfudge · 25/05/2010 23:25

Dress and cardi sounds lovely, and with or without the socks - let her decide.

TheFirstLady · 25/05/2010 23:25

PMSL, Grimma, yy, but did he paint his toenails?
Thank you all for your replies. Now, what am I going to wear?

You have to wear full white meringue obviously.

TheFirstLady · 25/05/2010 23:39

Thanks, Katisha. Will look out my wedding dress in the morning. That'll confuse the bishop!
