Are Birkenstock really worth £50?

I am desparate for shoes that do not murder my feet.

I am a childminder, so am on the go here and there most of the day (except when my two toddlers are sleeping as they are now..... )

But £50 (including postage) has to be EXTREMELY worth it for me.

Or any other suggestions????????

You can get them much cheaper here

Good point Born, everyone I know has to take a size smaller than normal in Birkies as they come up very big.

I've got three pairs which I'm living in at the moment. I tend to have to spend up to £50 on mine as I can't wear the single-strappers, they just won't stay on my feet. I have arthritis and could walk for miles in mine, I think they're worth every penny.

Definitely try to find some to try on before you buy online as the sizing is bigger than you think. I normally wear size 39 but have a 38 in Birkenstocks.

If you have a TK Maxx near you have a look there. I got 2 pairs last week, a bright green pair (look great with my dark jeans) and a lovely pink flower print pair. They were £30 each and well worth it IMO. Having previously spent £50+ in Clarks for sandals I would say these are great value for money. Go for it...!

I've just ordered some Gizahs for £30 from Amazon, free supersaver delivery. I have some Madrids that are about 3 years old now, and they are still in very good nick. I also get them a size smaller than I normally would.

I'm a big fan & can wear them for days.

They take a day or 2 to wear in. As you are a childminder, comfort & practacality should take priority & I'd go for one of the simpler more sturdy designs (like the trad 3 strap Florida) over the ones that just have one bit over the top of the foot which will act more like heavy flip flops, or the more 'fashion' designs.

I think they have gone up due to the weak £ so shop around.

I found a pair today at TKMAxx. DS says they look like "old lady's shoes"! here! (I took your sensible advice, Downdog, and bought sensible shoes)

I have worn them for about 15 minutes outside and tripped over the tip of the shoe twice!!!!!

But, I can tell they are going to be blissful!

And I will be splashing out on a pretty pair probably next month, depending on £££££££ !

Thanks, everyone.

If you like Birkenstocks but dont have a TKMaxx nearby, they sell them online. Not many in at the moment (unless you have small feet) but worth watching out for.

My most comfy sandals ever have to be these:

Not cheap but so comfortable I reckon I'll have to have mine surgically removed eventually

birkies don't suit the shape of my foot. I have these this summer, very comfy and a bit cheaper
