This Breton stripe look - how much mileage can I get out of it before I start looking hopelessly dated?

Am returning to work next Thurs after a year's maternity leave so went out shopping yesterday to try and get some easy dresses I can just throw on without thinking too hard. This Phase Eight number was one of my favourites but I am clueless about 'fashion' - how long do you reckon I could get away with wearing for before I start looking hopelessly out of date (but don't realise!)?

Alternatively, if anyone has seen anything in a similar style but without the stripes, I'd be most grateful for pointers.

m nd s had a good stripey jersey dress
breton is always good imo and won't look hopelessly out of date if you update all the other things around it

scurryfunge · 25/05/2010 09:57

plain jersey dress

just put it away for winter.

the nautical look / stripes come out every summer.

its 'classic' not fashion.

Oh wow, replies already - thanks very much!

Scurry, that dress is nice but reading the reviews I think it might suit a curvier figure. I am normally OK with an 8 or 10 but need something that flatters post-baby (lack of) boobs and skims over a slight paunch!

Am off out in a minute for most of the day - will check back in once DD in bed tonight.

it's lovely.

i'd look like a bag of hammers in it but if you've got the figure, go for it.

this is nice.

this is v stylish

this is fun but stylish

Thanks for the ideas Blinks - I might go and look at that first one in the flesh next time I'm passing Whistles. The Planet one is just my cup of tea too but I'm trying to stop wearing so much black (am v. pasty).

Funnily enough I was about to take that Joules dress into the changing room yesterday, then thought better of it (thought it might set me on slippery slope towards Boden - I think I'm probably safer sticking with more boring neutrals).

i've been doing it since 1996 and no ones complained

Ah - you were obviously ahead of the curve honeydragon, there seems to be more of the stuff than ever in the shops right now. I reckon motherlovebone is right though, it will probably work OK every summer!
