To shave or not to shave, that is the question.

Shaving: itchy armpits, spot, sweaty pits
Wax: itchy armpits, spots, sweaty pits, sooo much pain.

Why not just let it grow? What do you think? Why put ourselves through this?

I have very pale skin and thick, dark body hair. A lot of it.

I wouldn't just let it grow because I find it uncomfortable, hot, smelly (if I sweat at all) and you can't see me for all that hair.

So I wax, wax, wax.

Nearly everything.

Gigantaur · 24/05/2010 21:01

i find i am far less sweaty if clean shaven.
i don't get spotty pits either, nor are they itchy.

maybe you're just doing it wrong.

onepieceoflollipop · 24/05/2010 21:01

I shave armpits personally.

I wax legs generally (occasionally shave though)

I wax at home and don't think I am coordinated enough to do own armpits.

Re armpits, I find it best to shave them last thing at night. Then leave them to "rest" overnight for about 12 hours. i.e. no applying deodorant until they have settled down.

DramaInPyjamas · 24/05/2010 21:01

As a teenager, I used to pluck my underarm hair with tweezers!

onepieceoflollipop · 24/05/2010 21:03

I buy reasonable quality razors (double or better still triple blade) Change razors frequently. Use a shaving gel/foam for sensitive skin. I used to use soap/shower gel or whatever was to hand and that made them sore sometimes.

I use a mirror to see what I am doing, reduces the risk of scraping at skin that is already shaved. Also years ago I used to apply roll on straight away and it was very stingy and sore. Now I use a solid product, and wait til the next day before applying.

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 24/05/2010 21:05

conditioner on first before shaving gel/foam can also work

smittenkitten · 24/05/2010 21:05

shaving much less irritable since i started using olive oil on damp skin instead of soap/foam etc

confusedmummie · 24/05/2010 21:08

hey have you tried nair hair removal cream or cheaper but the same stuff that works a treat put cream on and wipe of cream with hairs

onepieceoflollipop · 24/05/2010 21:09

If you are sensitive to shaving then definitely do a patch test before using hair removal cream (bitter experience )

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 24/05/2010 21:09

I tried an epilady. It was sooo painful amd I had a rash afterwards. I now just shave until I find something better but my son kindly tells me I have underarm stubble. I give up. If it's going to grow then I should do as the french do and grow it so I can tie it up

confusedmummie · 24/05/2010 21:11

lol cut them really short with nail scissors

arsesandoldlace · 24/05/2010 21:11

I used to shave my pits every single day. Because the stubble was itchy and uncomfortable.

Now I don't bother unless going sleeveless, probably once a week/fortnightly. Get a much closer shave when I do it less often, oddly enough.

Down with the tyranny of naked pits I say!!

And while I'm in the region, what's all the coyness in adverts? 'under-arms'? They're ARMPITS.

Hassled · 24/05/2010 21:13

I leave my underarm hair. There isn't much of it - doesn't seem too unsightly.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 24/05/2010 21:14

Do french ladies remove? Julia Roberts doesn't.

CherryBaby · 24/05/2010 21:15

Laser hair removal? If you can afford it, DO IT! Ive had it done on ....er, several areas, its absolutely awesome! Just shower and go

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 24/05/2010 21:18

Hmm. Tempting. It's expensive though. Your pit hair is there to protect your bits, underarm hair must be ther for some reason.

OP posts:
CherryBaby · 24/05/2010 21:21

I agree Belle. Works wonders for your sex life though

CherryBaby · 24/05/2010 21:22

And Belle!!! Its not THAT expensive! You can get packages that work out quite reasonable....Laser! Laser! Laser!

Butterpie · 24/05/2010 21:23

I tend to shave if I am going sleeveless, but if I forget or somehow have to get changed halfway through the day, I don't panic.

Same with legs really.

If I am getting all glammed up for some reason I shave and moisturise and straighten and pluck and tint and curl and whatever everywhere, but that is vanishingly rare...

Tbh, if someone sees me faffing about in my own garden/drive/street with a bit of hairy ankle showing, well it's their problem if they are offended.

And as for shaving pubes...I used to have a boyfriend who insisted on it and it was the biggest pita IN THE WORLD. I was constantly stubbly or itchy or sore. Never again. If a bloke ever tries to suggest I remove any hair from anywhere (and I am marrying DP who prefers the hairer lady, so unlikely) they will get such a mouthful of abuse they won't dare do it again :D

I do sometimes get my eyebrows waxed, just because I do think my face looks a bit more in control like that, but it is in no way vital.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 24/05/2010 21:26

I had to shave pubes when I had my appendix taken out. Never again! I had one boyfriend who kept asking, NEVER! Ohh, the itching. I told him to shave his bits first, he never did

expatinscotland · 24/05/2010 21:30

'Do french ladies remove? '

Yes, yes they do.

CherryBaby · 24/05/2010 21:31

haha, my DH has to be clean down there and I also hate underarm hair, so thats always clean too, on him I mean. He's a clean freak anyway, so hardly needs my encouragement!

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 24/05/2010 21:35

Damn. Shall I just side with Julia Roberts then?

OP posts:
CherryBaby · 24/05/2010 21:37

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 24/05/2010 21:48

My life's just to short to deal with underarm hair. It's too hot to wear clothes with sleves now.
